Just don't give up.
Everybody has set backs. What you need is to just always come back from those setbacks and never quit. Life happens, I know. I have broken 4 collar bones, multiple ribs, tore 2 rotator cuffs with surgery, torn my MCL at 17, ACL and had surgery at 23, kidney stone surgery less than a year ago, I just had my most recent collar bone surgically repaired last thanksgiving and I am still feeling the pains, and had an auto-immune issue where my immune system was attacking my own calf muscles which kept me off of my feet for over a month (of everything that was by far the worst pain).
But you know what, I still get up every day and I still train. I am aiming for the Dallas marathon this December. I am aiming to squat 500lbs and bench 300 lbs again by that same time.
No matter what happens, you can still do something. Knees bad? Bench. Shoulder messed up? Make it a leg day. Smashed a hand and can't grip anything? Run.
Life happens, but what are you going to do about it? It is your life, so why let outside circumstances dictate where you are going? Take control and you will find a way to make yourself better. Humans are more awe inspiring creatures than we sometimes give ourselves credit for, so go and be awesome.
