When I Started:
Jan, 2008
How I Started:
I was ordered to active duty to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Prior to this deployment I was sent to Ft. Meade, MD for a Public Affairs Qualification Course, where I began working out (again) with a friend who I was going to deploy with.
Why I Love It:
I enjoy the post-workout burn as well as the strides that I've been able to make over the last year.
How I Stay Motivated:
By challenging myself with goals and reading about the incredible changes that others have made... That and a swift kick in the ass from Rock23 and Stryka...
BB Accomplishments:
** On the way to 350 lbs, I was able to hit 320 lbs during one session.
** Recently, I hit my Iraq deployment goal of benching 305 lbs. Time to raise the bar and go for 350 lbs.
** I've gained 30 lbs of muscle in the last year.
** I've gone from 135 lbs on the flat bench to 298 lbs.
** I've gone from about 180 lbs on the leg press to 704 lbs. And while I think that I still have a long way to go, I had someone tell me the other day that they wish they were cut like me.

By September I will hit 350 on the flat bench, and will shoot for 400 by December.
I will get my run down to a seven minute mile by July and will hit six minute miles by October (2009 Army PT test). As well as a 5k in November with some friends
I will (although I've no idea how right now) get my body fat down to 10% this year (hopefully this is realistic).
I will do this while remaining at 200lbs.
How has bodybuilding and fitness helped and/or changed your family life?
Not sure yet. I've been deployed to Iraq for a year, so when I get home I'll need to make some adjustments to fit back in. However, I think that my family may also need to make some adjustments to the lifestyle that I've adopted. Not sure yet. How has bodybuilding and fitness helped you in your career?
Thank God the weekend is almost here. This has been a very tough week. Last Sunday, as the new company commander for my Signal unit, I had the distinct pleasure of briefing my brigade commander on the fiscal year 2011 training plan. To my benefit, he had some very constructive thoughts...
The first week I thought it was too easy, the second week was definitely tougher and I know its going to be more so as I go on. I get some muscle stiffness and a little sore but no real DOMS as I did with my last program. Maybe that is coming too. How is everything going with you, training, family?
I'm doing the Bill Starr 5x5 which is combining them. I have the spreadsheet, so we'll see what happens. You did the 5X5 right, did you combine or do them seperate?
The quad is back! I was able to do my full leg workout last saturday with no problems other than being sore until the following Wednesday :) I am looking forward to another good leg session tomorrow. -Jeff
