When I Started:
Aug, 2007
How I Started:
Started lifting when I was 15 (you know, 5 lb dumbbells) and I remember seeing women with muscles and just knowing I'd someday get there...I'm definitely still getting there...but I've since learned a lot about lifting and eating clean.
Why I Love It:
Body/self awareness, confidence, self-esteem, character, endorphins, adrenaline. It's empowering; you're relying on muscle to primarily shape your body, it's much less about genes, what other people think or what the scale says.
How I Stay Motivated:
Getting more compliments and feeling best from phases of lifting and eating clean vs. any phase of dieting. I really just enjoy being strong (and a girl!)
BB Accomplishments:
Going from group classes to the weight room with confidence.

Didn't eat a calorie over 1200/day. I wanted to be thin (for me) and have some muscle but no one told me to lift heavier than I was or have whey protein when I got home. I wish I knew!
hoping I don't lose any muscle now that I'm just working out at home!
I want to be sculpted with muscle primarily. Muscle and curves. I want to be completely comfortable in my skin. Right now, I would not feel comfortable in a bathing suit at the beach. I eventually want to make fitness a career. I find myself happiest around people who eat clean and lift weights.. I can't relate much to other people. I want to turn heads, however shallow, it'll just mean I'm a strong woman and that's all I want. I want more women to lift.
What tips would you give to others to help them stay motivated over the long-term?
Don't fall into societal habits or traditions. EAT WHAT GIVES YOU ENERGY and supports healthy only! It should be your life plan. It starts with really changing how you think about real foods vs. our ideas of food and meals etc.Don't fall into societal habits or traditions. EAT WHAT GIVES YOU ENERGY and supports healthy only! What is your favorite "healthy" dessert? Give the recipe if applicable.
I'm currently infatuated with bb.com because my real life world (even in my gym) seems to be filled with (however, wonderful) clueless people. Not that I have all the answers, but I see women in my gym still overdoing cardio, not going heavy enough, lifting the same muscle groups back to...
When you can't increase weight increase reps. The short rest times push your workouts into circuit training. Hey, if you're going to be working at home for a while invest in one of those doorway pullup bars. Pullups are the best for overall upper body development.
You don't need much more than that. If you need more weight for, say, back exercises, get some resistance bands. They are pretty cheap and you can get some serious resistance from them. Keep the reps high and the rest time VERY short you won't loose anything.
You shouldn't loose any muscle at home. As long as you have the "right" equipment. You don't need a lot just the right stuff. Depending on what type of moves you're doing, 2 sets of dumbells and maybe 3 resistance bands and you are good.
Looking great jb. You ever consider fitness comp? You have very nice broad shoulders and great v-taper! Not to mention you legs are very well proportioned. Keep it up.
Sounds like u are training "Rocky Balboa" style, lol. Good for you for doing what u can till u get back to the gym. Most people would simply do "nothing" but sit there and complain.
Ahh the basement gym, lol. You should name it "Jessica's House of Pain"!! Only the strong shall enter! Keep up the great work, your progress pics are always super....have a great weekend..
you have really lean down well here. You got a ton of muscle showing. Did you know you had that much under all that flab? How your strength gains coming? Keep up the great work!
