Overall Goal: I want to lose about 15 more pounds for a total of 100 pounds lost! I want to finally have a healthy weight and be confident with my new body!

When I Started:
May, 2008
How I Started:
I used to play volleyball when I was a kid (played for eight years), but once I stopped playing in high school, I began packing on the pounds. After a few years and a lot more added pounds in college, and sporadically working out/dieting, I finally realized that I was ready for a lifetime commitment to good health and fitness. Lots of changes and tracking every calorie in an online calorie counter has helped me to lose enough weight so that I could begin serious exercise. This summer I have been training with someone who has now become a good friend, and he is so motivating for me! World's best personal trainer-- he makes me want to work harder on my own so that I can impress him at our next workout. I owe him a lot.
Why I Love It:
I love the feeling after a good hard workout, and I love working out on the guys' side of the gym... all the girls lift those dinky 5-pound weights!
How I Stay Motivated:
I look at other people's before and after pics, or I decide to try a new workout. I have a personal trainer this summer, and he is REALLY motivating and works out with me, unlike other trainers I've had in the past. Also, going shopping and fitting into smaller and cuter clothes is a big motivator!
BB Accomplishments:
I lost 75 lbs from May 2008 to June 2009! (Hoping to get that number up to at least 100 by the end of the year)

Taken at about my highest weight. D-I-S-G-U-S-T-I-N-G. I was slow and tired all the time, and I knew I was headed down a really unhealthy path, but didn't even realize how extremely overweight I was. Decided to turn my life around.

Goal (Long):
I have worked really hard for the last year, but I am not at my goal yet. I have done the easy part- I have lost a lot of weight by changing my eating habits and abandoning the general laziness. But now that I know I can achieve my short-term goals, I want to be stronger and healthier than I ever have. I want to be proud of my body! At my heaviest, I was always happy on the outside, but on the inside I was somewhere between 40 and 45% body fat. I have knocked it down, but this summer is time for me to get more than just "average" and achieve the best body I possibly can. It's hard for me to picture what that is-- after all, I've been overweight my whole life. I am a size 10 now, which is smaller than I was in elementary school! I hope to be a size 6/8 somewhere down the line, but I am more focused on increasing my strength and endurance levels. Currently, I wear a size 8/10.
The most difficult part of this process has been my mental transformation. It has been difficult for me to trust myself not to go back to old habits, and to start visualizing myself as a thin and fit person. I have always been involved in athletics, but have not been at a healthy weight since elementary school. When I look in the mirror, I see myself as more overweight than I actually am. A huge goal of mine is to be able to see my body as others see it, but I realize that this will take a lot of time.
She has made an incredible transformation! But even more inspiring to me is seeing someone with a similar body type and "before" just a few steps ahead of me in the game - with so much confidence in her body where she is now. Inspires me to work out harder, try to catch up to her, and start lifting weights at her level! Now I KNOW I can do it!
Why? What are the pros and cons of working out there?
The rec center at my university is fantastic-- Sports Illustrated rated it the best in the nation a few years ago. But the weights are really segregated- women usually don't go to the weights area either because they don't know how to lift, or guys look at us either like we are invading their space or we are a piece of meat! I finally stopped caring and just jumped in there anyways... hopefully the stares I get are friendly ones! The rec center at my university is fantastic-- Sports Illustrated rated it the best in the nation a few years ago. What type of outfit do you usually wear when you workout? Why?
I usually wear an old t-shirt and stretch capri pants. The shirts are really baggy on me now, so that is very motivating to me. But the pants are tight and make my butt look good!
You're welcome! And yes, hopefully in a few months, we will both be celebrating our weight loss! Keep in touch, it helps talking to other people about goals and progress. Good for motivation!
