When I Started:
Apr, 2008
How I Started:
As a teenager I was inspired by Stallone movies, namely Rocky and Rambo. Stallone's sculpted body was how I wished mine was and I also fantasied one day of being an action hero in movies. I was signed up to the Y.M.C.A gym in Masterton and for about two years nearly every day after school I would have a work out. However my life went through a number of changes and for about four years I was not at a gym. In that time I didn't really work out. Every now and then I picked up a dumb bell and did some repetitions, did some press ups or went for a jog. But nothing really that I kept at. And one day I looked in the mirror and realised my lack of working out and overdose of crappy food had caught up to me. I felt a sense of failure; I didn't feel too good about myself. I saw a photo of myself when I was 19 and saw something that I did not realise back then; I was actually on my way to achieving my goal and looked quite toned. I wanted it back. Early this year I signed up myself to Les Mills.
Why I Love It:
I love that feeling after a workout when I feel like I've accomplished something with my day. I've lifted a weight I've never lifted before. I look in the mirror and my muscles are pumped. I feel a sense of power. A rush. That feeling seeps into other activities in my day and improves my state of mind.
How I Stay Motivated:
I do a lot of visualisation. I imagine myself two ways; the way I don't physically want to be like(overweight, unhealthy, slow and unfit) and what physically I do want to achieve (rippling muscles, better health and strength). I look at other people who have reached levels I would like to reach which gives me inspiration. I picture myself looking sexy on the beach, starring in action movies and modelling for fitness magazines. I also imagine those out there in the world who I may have to protect myself from; thinking of enemies is a good way of pushing on.
BB Accomplishments:
I've seen some improvement in my chest muscles. I have more strength than I use to.
I would like to increase thickness and width on my pectorals and have them clearly defined especially in the lower part of my chest. I want to see my abdominal muscles and obliques show through and therefore I need to remove that layer of fat covering them. I also want to have more definition in my arms so my shoulders are more rounded, my triceps are built and look separated from my biceps.
