Been doing it since high school, but got seriously serious after my now-ex wife left me in December of 2003. I had quit eating and working out and lost about 15 pounds (down to 122). I finally stopped feeling sorry for myself, got back in the gym, and put on some pounds (see below).
Why I Love It:
I like the way it makes me feel and the way I look. Being in great shape gives me self-confidence. Plus, if I don't work out, I lose weight FAST.
How I Stay Motivated:
It's not difficult because it's become one of my favorite things to do.
BB Accomplishments:
Gained 30 pounds of muscle (122 lbs. to 155 lbs.) in 10 months while keeping my body fat below 9%. Benched 295 pounds while weighing 150 pounds.

What idahodawg Is Up To:

idahodawgchanged Overall Goal: "Get in shape for my first half-marathon in March (Seaside, FL) without losing any muscle mass.."
idahodawgupdated Fit Status "Training for my first half-marathon in March. Hoping to not lose any muscle mass while I do it. Gym 3 days a week, running 3 days a week."
Get in shape for my first half-marathon in March (Seaside, FL) without losing any muscle mass.
Goal (Long):
I've always been lean and athletic, but I was soooo skinny. When I graduated from high school, I was 5'7" and weighed 115 lbs. I was looking forward to the "freshman 15." When I graduated from undergrad, I was 5'8" and 125 lbs. I stayed there until about 3.5 years ago. Now I'm 5'8.5" and 150 lbs., but my legs and arms are still a little small for my liking. I'd like to add about 10 more pounds of muscle to bring my legs and arms up to speed, and I'd like to drop my bodyfat just a little (it's never been over 9%, but I'd like it around 6%) to really get my muscles to pop. My legs have no definition at all, so I'm really focusing on that to start the New Year.
Weight Goal:
I want to GAIN 10 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
6%
Upcoming Contest:
Seaside School Half-Marathon

Have you ever had a lifting injury?
Yes
What type of injury was it? How long were you injured? How did you recover?
I've "tweaked" muscles and joints before, typically when lifting heavy, but I've never had a serious injury like a torn muscle or crushed toes. Time lost in the gym was minimal because I simply trained around the tweaked muscle until it was ready to go again. Most recently I had a shoulder problem that prevented me from doing lateral raises, so I focused on upright rows until the problem corrected itself.I've "tweaked" muscles and joints before, typically when lifting heavy, but I've never had a serious injury like a torn muscle or crushed toes. What is the most common reason that somebody gets injured while lifting?
In my experience it's been when they're trying to lift outside their level of fitness. What I mean is that they try to do too much for the shape that they're in, and they end up damaging the muscles they're trying to train. You have to build up to compound sets and supersets; you can't just do 4 sets of 20 reps to start with.In my experience it's been when they're trying to lift outside their level of fitness. I've been trying to get my wife to lift weights with me for quite some time. She's always gone to the gym with me, but she usually does her own cardio thing and then lifts some weights, but never on the same program as me. About a month ago she said she wanted to lift with me, but I was on...
