I was the big kid in 2nd grade. I was already playing soccer, so I was running, but it wasn't cutting it. So, I got a weight set at a garage sale up the street and the rest is history
Why I Love It:
I love the feeling of self improvement. I love knowing that no matter what kind of day I'm having the weights don't care. A kilo is a kilo and a pound is a pound the world round.
How I Stay Motivated:
Well, currently I stay motivated by training a few guys in powerlifting, bodybuilding, grip and strongman. Helping them is getting my juices flowing again. Hoping to compete in October.
BB Accomplishments:
You really don't want me to list a bunch of things that you've never heard of...but
second place nationals Bando martial arts.
national squat champion ADAU.
and a few powerlifting meets here and there.

Boy, I do look like the "Before" picture. Amazing how far I've let myself go. This is at 232 lbs and 24.2% bf. Height, 5'6.
Compete on October 25in the Raw Power Central PA Open Powerlifting tournament. Weight class:220.
Goal (Long):
My goals are to:
A.) To lose body weight so that I might weigh 220 lbs. This will keep me in my weight class for powerlifting and improve my overall health. Eventually I'd like to drop down closer to the 200 mark.
B.) To reduce my bodyfat percentage to a healthy (and less dangerous/embarassing) point.
C.) Compete in Oct. in the Coal County Classic Powerlifting meet in Bigler, PA.
What celebrity body would you most like to have? Why?
I'd have to say Marius Pudzianowski, the strong man (but only if I could keep my own head and liver:) ). He has a phenominal package of both aesthetics and strength that just astounds me. I've also been impressed with Matt Kroc (Krockalezski?). Same reasoning as before.I'd have to say Marius Pudzianowski, the strong man (but only if I could keep my own head and liver:) ). How many reps per set do you usually do? Why?
5-8. I gain the most power/size from this range. I will go higher on reps on a few exercises a week, but by and large I'm a 5x5 and 4x8 guy.
Description: My dl attempt of 425x5. Jan 31, 2008. Rep 5 my right hand began to slip due to tigerbalm, but I'm still going to count it :)
Matt Squat Form
Played: 45
Description: Me squatting to show the boys (17 and under) what will be expected for depth at the next meet. 385x5, so relatively light set, but #4 felt a bit heavy :)
450 squat
Played: 57
Description: Me with 450 for a PR squat on Sept. 8th, 2008. 221 bdy weight. 6 or so weeks out from my meet. I showed my "tummy" to show that there was no belt, suit, nor wraps for the lift (And to straighten out my shirt :) )

Why I like this video: This is a fantastic gathering of "some" of the greatest lifts in weighted sports. Not just the past, but very current lifters as well.
Well, for my next "Cardio Odyssey" I've been reworking my diet with the knowledge that I've gained from the past 40 days. Here's my preliminary diet, at least for lifting days:
meal 1: 5 whites, 1 yolk, 34 oz water, multi vitamin, vit. C., niacin, fish and flax oil
Thx Matt. I like posting pics w/ my favorite people (wife & kiddies) to remind myself that my BB goals aren't the most imp thing going on.....but I still want to get that ripped bod at least once! BTW: I notice your arms are as big as my thighs. HUGE! Have a blessed & groovacious w/e.
Fairly well, not hitting it quite as hard as I used to (don't know if it's turning 50 or having lost my workout partner - we'll blame it on Bryant!). Was able to do 8 shrugs at 405 today for my 3rd set, so I was pretty happy with that. Unfortunately, the weight is still hovering around 240, that's what I really need to work on.
You? two weeks out!
Thank you for granting me forgiveness. I feel better now :) Purple Wrath is for recovery and some energy. Janthony swears by it. I think it worked because I can actually move my arms today :) I've read other blogs with mentions of it and I've never seen anything negative yet. You can get a free sample with a purchase from BB.
That's nice! I never knew the name meant that. My mom wanted to name my brother after my grandfather, John, but wanted something unusual, so they went with the Scottish gaelic form of the name. Have a good day today :)
Ian is your son? My brother's name is Ian. He is the only one we knew for decades with that name, LOL. Yesterday I heard someone call for their son whose name is Ian. I always have me ears peeled for that name. I hear it so often now.
Hi Matt..Just checking in with you to see how you're doing. I enjoy reading your blogs. Especially enjoy when you incorporate "training" in with your kids! :) Keep in touch! Annemarie
You really have come a long way! You should be happy with your progress! I just hit my seventh month mark and at times it feels like forever! But actually fairly content with my progress. Have a great day!
Nope, no military base... that would be too much damn running. Right now, I'm just on a 5 day cycle of 2 per day workouts in order to gain mass and cut fat. 'Course I can't do 2 per day all the time (if even 1) 'cause I'm deployed. But my main focus is to get the bodyfat down which is provin' to be hard as hell.
Thanks man... looks like you're really into building power. I gotta start incorporating some'a that into my routines. My core isn't as strong as I think it should be right now.
I was so glad you added up the inches I lost. I avoided doing it because I knew I'd muck it up, LOL. Thanks for the great comment!! I guess you'll be blogging about what's coming up for you this weekend, so I'll wait to read about it :)
Hi,
I went in just to see what she had to offer, so although it was disappointing, at least I know not to use her at all. The other BB'er came through and she's working with me on something. So all is good!! If we don't chat this weekend, have a good one :)
Thanks for the comment!! I burned that many calories by doing medium intensity/fast pace during fast songs, and then the highest intensity/slower pace during slow songs. HIIT? My heart rate is never below 145. It makes a huge difference rather than doing the same pace at the same intensity. As for the teddy, she needs it for daily story time to hold. She's the only one who doesn't have anything with her. It's sad.
