Overall Goal: I'm here for those who would like to talk bodybuilding and fitness, not to rack up thousands of 'friends' who are nowhere to be seen. This is especially the case when things get tough with my PTSD. Sometimes a little encouragement goes a long way.
Fit Status:
Out for the rest of the week for Thanksgiving. Take care everyone!
Motivation Level: 10/10

Male

Location:
Alamosa, Colorado, United States
Occupation:
Grad student/New Car Sales Consultant
Personal Website:

When I Started:
Aug, 1998
How I Started:
A buddy of mine who was a fantastic powerlifter. He talked me into trying the iron game despite the fact that I was concerned with the adverse affects of weight training and Okinawan Karate which I was heavily involved with at the time.
Why I Love It:
It takes every crappy thing about a bad day particularly when I'm dealing with my PTSD and gets it out of my system. In fact other than playing the violin its really one of the few things that really seems to help when I just want to crawl in a hole. I don't understand exactly why but maybe I'm not really meant to. Maybe it has something to do with all the wonderful chemicals that the body releases when a person lifts. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that, as my counselor s***ested I do, I'm amongst a fairly large number of people when I'm at the gym. No matter what though it has helped to an unbelievable degree.
Conversely, it is definitely the capstone of any really good day.
How I Stay Motivated:
Remembering that most of the guys that I went to school with are fat slobs with heart problems and diabetes already in their near future. Beyond that I have an absolutely awesome lifting partner. Thanks Wendy!!!
BB Accomplishments:
Getting up to 195 lbs in the fall of 2004 at about 9 percent bodyfat.

Goal (Long):
I want to get back to about 195-200 lbs, where I was before I deployed to Iraq in 2004. While I was in Kuwait waiting to move into theater, I screwed up my left supraspinatus playing volleyball(go figure) and then developed pretty bad bursitis while not letting myself recover. In the 8 months that followed I lost 20 pounds. I need help staying motivated!
My legs have never been a problem my calves have nearly always been about 16-18 inches and my quads are consistently around 24-25 (good genetics I suppose). My back and shoulders develop fairly quickly as well but my arms and chest and abs always seem to lag behind. I've never been a big bencher and as someone who's trained gymnasts as well as general personal training I prefer dumbbell work over bar work.
So what I'm getting at is I need help with the upper body particularly the front half, lol.
Any ideas or suggestions for training as well as motivation in general are greatly appreciated.
She has built an absolutely fantastic physique and done so while handling a disease that would cause most in her shoes to give it up in apathy! Keep fighting and improving ma'am. I'd love to meet you at a competition someday!
I am a huge proponent of German Volume training as described by master athletic trainer Charles Poliquin. Basically you take a weight that you could do 20 reps of for a single set and do 10 reps with. The important points are that you strictly control your tempo to a 2x4x and only take 90 seconds between sets. It really forces you to check your ego at the door, regarding how much weight you handle, lol. After six weeks of that you take a three week break from GV training and then when you start again, you do so with sets of 6 X 10(conducted in the same manner) and then 5 the following week with a 5% increase in weight, followed by sets of 4 reps with another 5% increase in weight the week after that. The fourth week you drop the weight to around 5% over the first weeks amount and start the cycle over. I'll do this for two cycles and then take a break with Jonathan Lawson and Steve Holman's Train, Eat, Grow routine for a month.I am a huge proponent of German Volume training as described by master athletic trainer Charles Poliquin. Other than the obvious benefits (appearance, health, etc.), how has bodybuilding and fitness improved your overall life?
It has provided me with a much more goal oriented outlook on life. I clearly understand now that the hard work needed to achieve my fitness goals is the same level of hard work required to achieve my goals in every other aspect of my life and that I have to set short, mid level and long term goals and actively strive to reach them.It has provided me with a much more goal oriented outlook on life. So I'm through the weekend and a little disappointed by the lack of discipline that I showed regarding my diet this weekend. It was my daughter's birthday and I was more than a little gluttonous, lol. In addition, the protein wasn't managed the way I normally do either. About the only...
Got past last night. I will have to say the cheddar BBQ burger I had last night was great! I skipped the scales this morning... Hope you enjoy your daughter's birthday just as much next week.
Sorry that your missing your wife in the gym, but can't be to careful with those things! I was told that I couldn't have kids so when I got pg I didn't do ANYTHING! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you both! :)
Just checking in really quick. I got a late start this morining...not sure why because I was up early. Oh well! Off to the gym to do...something...I did that boot camp class yesterday so although today was supposed to be legs, they are burned out....You be good!
Thanks Scot! Yeah, that's my little guy. Lol! I'm having fun watching him do his thing. This past Saturday his team won 25-6 and this weekend we have to travel to Columbus, GA for a playoff game. We're hoping for another big win! I hope you're doing well man. Ricky
Training has been a little more consistent the past week. How about yours? A few of the guys at the office and I are planning fitness events for next year. Getting psyched!
No training... My son got me sick. Starting to feel better today :) So maybe I'll go light today then tomorrow when I'm well kill it in the gym! How about you?!
I'm doing sholders and bis today. I should have noodle arms after I'm done! :) How about you?? Tomorrow it's going to be close to 70's here so we're going to try and be outside all day!
