Overall Goal: I want to gain 20 more lbs. of muscle. I specifically feel I need more muscle in my thighs, calves, traps and shoulders. I also need more cardio and ab work as well.

I'm simply maintaining right now because of personal issues but my joints and tendons feel as good as they have in a long time.

How I Started:
I purchased a used SoloFlex many years ago. It helped me learn basic movements and exercises without actually leaving my apartment. I was embarassed by my skinny physique and didn't want to workout among others.
When I started lifting weights regularly, and before I met my wife, my weight was around 135 lbs. I now weight 182 lbs. So, I've gained 47 lbs. since I began. Most of the weight gain is muscle not fat.
I then met my wife which gave me a renewed confidence in myself and economic opportunities I had not enjoyed previously in my life.
We both joined the YMCA in 1998 and have been members since.
Why I Love It:
Above all things, working out with free weights and building muscle has given me self-confidence I never had before.
How I Stay Motivated:
Seeing how I look now compaired to how I used to look.
My family, friends and others used to make comments about my size and how skinny I was.
I remember how those comments used to hurt me deeply. Now, I don't hear those comments. The comments I hear now are positive ones.
Another very powerful motivating tool is that we take annual vacations to beach resorts. We both want to look our best and weight training and other exercise is a large part of how we prepare for those vacations.

Goal (Long):
My current long-range goal is to build muscle in my legs and shoulders and weigh about 200 lbs.
My genetics gave me skinny legs and I want to overcome it. Additionally, my shoulders are not as inflammed as they have been in the past. Although I need to build my shoulders I must be careful not to make them as inflammed as they once were.
Shoulder pain has set me back in the past.

I get a kick out of guys like you who look like you do but write that they once were skinny. Man, you're NOT now!! Can't even picture how that could have been said of you. Well done.
