When I Started:
Aug, 2008
How I Started:
After years of doing the same workout, off and on, some buddies at a business conference reignited the desire of getting in shape from my old gymnastics days, when I was first intrigued about bodybuilding with free weights. After working out with these guys a few times I got excited about meeting an as yet unfulfilled goal.
Why I Love It:
I feel so much healthier physically and mentally when I am working out, and I love connecting with some guys who have this same interest. Seeing the improvement in definition so far jazzes me.
How I Stay Motivated:
Talking with friends, getting their encouragement and accountability. Again, seeing results, and having a routine every week. Having a date at least preliminarily, to compete.
BB Accomplishments:
So far, definition in upper body, lats, delts, quads.
My goal is to enter another show in April 2010, and add 2 inches to my thighs before that show.
Goal (Long):
Having successfully gotten on stage, I am pumped to do it again, making use of my experience in prep and in performing. I will be working out with a buddy occasionally to challenge me and coach me on leg development. I will get back on track with diet, but use more carbs during the prep months than I did before, especially pre and post workout. My weight - still want to be under 150. I know I can do it.
Two days away from a day of celebration of what has been a lifetime goal. Looking at myself in the mirror, it's hard to recognize this 59-year old body by God. What a journey! Thanks to all of you for your incredible suppplrt over these many months.
I was talking with my workout partner about the fact that I can't use anymore weight than I did 2 years ago. We decided it's age related and I have reached my lifting and bodybuilding potential. The best I can do is maintain what I have now and not go backwards too quickly..Works for me..
Now that you mention it, I wonder why I'm never sore? I'll work a body part sometimes to exhaustion and to the point of cramping, but I'm never sore in the days that follow. Tired in that area, but never sore.
Keep at it Gary..we both know it takes time and patience. When others tell me that, I say, "At my age, I don't have that much time left."...lol.."I want patience and I want it NOW!"
It is a squat on the smith machine but put your feet in front and put them together or maybe about an inch apart. When you go down in your squat only go as far to make a 90 degree angle with your body, as if you were sitting on a box, then go back up. Hope I explained that right, if not, goggle it or check here on BB.com for the move. I will be posting a new training routine this week.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. My leg day usually consists of stretching, then leg press warm ups, 2 drop sets on the leg press ( heavey for 6 reps, then 10, then 12 with 15 seconds in between). Then on to squats, then box squats on the smith machine, leg extentions, seated leg curls, hamstring curls, then finish off with calves ( standing calve raises, seat calve raises). Hope that helps.
