Overall Goal: Build muscle, shed fat (and keep it off this time).

When I Started:
Jan, 2005
How I Started:
On and off, up and down, due to injuries and work overload. In mid August 2009 I got back on the righteous path with a fitness-conscious diet plan and commitment to weighlifting and now I've got my eyes on the prize.
Why I Love It:
It's a great feeling of accomplishment to stick with it, through pain and distractions, and come out the other side looking better, feeling better and functioning better all the way around.
How I Stay Motivated:
Ponder the alternative: Being obese and at risk for all kinds of health problems as I get older. I also see how hard everyone works at it on bb.com. Some great transformations on here and I want to add to that legacy.
Build muscle, shed fat (and keep it off this time).
Goal (Long):
Get under 200 lbs or body fat at around 12-8 percent. I'm not fixated on the weight figure, but as a goal I want to break the 200-plus barrier that I've been over for the past 15 years. Someone my height, even with plenty of muscle, shouldn't be too much over 200 lbs., something I can see just by looking at many of those with similar build on this site who are already in good shape.
What is your favorite cardiovascular exercise? Why?
elliptical machine. It's low-impact quality gives me confidence to push hard without getting an injury. When I've trained on treadmills toward the higher end of my bodyweight range, it has been dicey. You get to feel like some ankle ligament might snap if you push too hard.elliptical machine. What is your cardio exercise plan?
It's under construction. I'm trying to transition into interval training, but I generally go at near all-out intensity for 30 minutes at a time. I do this before weightlifting, mostly because it gets me going. I'm trying to switch over to morning cardio, and will do more of that as I drop weight and can begin focusing more on lifting evenings. It's under construction. The past three or four months since I returned to the gym and began managing my diet for fitness have been productive, in that I lost some weight (around 10 lbs, net) and got myself accustomed to the rigor/routine of working out, watching what I eat, timing meals, etc.
Hey friend! 24 lbs!!! Nice work brotha! Great to hear. Well, the calories have been increased by about 1000. Started that about a month ago. I'm up about 8 lbs since Aug1 or so. Holding on to my abs for dear life!! LOL!
hey man thanks for the add. I do a little cardio but not a alot. Maybe about 60-80 min a week. I have a clean diet. Only whole gains, fresh fruits n veggies, good fats, minimal processed foods.
Stay focused, your well on your way.
hey man. thanks for the add. i checked out your profile and you have a great approach. keep your motivation man. it will pay off. I was 30 pounds over your current weight when I started. and find those people around you who can help reinforce great behavior (both gym and diet). keep pushing for greatness.
Hey big man! Nice work on the 15 el bees!!! As far as worrying about being able to build lean muscle mass and stay lean, for me, and many I guess, I think if you try to keep the protein grams at about 1-1.5gms per pound of bodyweight you should be fine. For me at about 225 I eat about 300 gms of protein a day. Make sense? Great job my friend and stay in touch with your progress or if you have any other questions!!
Hey my man! I def count the calories, protein, carbs, and fat grams. I've been really strict for about 4 months now. For the last 30 days I've been about 1900 calories with about 200 grams of protein per day. I do 25-30 mins of cardio EVERY day. I hit the weights on a 4 day on, one day off split.
How ya doin on your program?
P-for diet go read my Transform story, I have everything outlined, you have to get a lot of cardio in as well. Formula is weights + cardio + diet. Let me know. clc.
Thanks for the kind words brotha. To anwswer your question though... my results are mostly from the cardio. I run at least 15 min at 6.5mph at 5% incline three times a day in addition to lifting the weights. My diet is pretty simple... lots of chicken and also ISOPURE ZERO CARB whey protein mix.
