How I Started:
I can't remember when I first worked out. I was fat as a kid and my parents and school would always encourage me to join different programs in addition to school physical education. I went to a fat camp once. I worked out in high school. I would work out with friends. I wasted several years thinking the key to looking good was just to run on the treadmill and follow the food pyramid and count carbs. How wrong was I!? It took losing over 120lbs though light exercise and caloric restriction, and still hating my body afterward, to figure out that I was doing it all wrong... So I did my research and learned about building muscle, how muscles work, how to work out, sets, splits, supps, form, macronutrients, etc. I've gained some fat in the last year (dating!!!!! argh), but at least now I know how to attain both of my goals: lose fat and gain muscle.
Why I Love It:
Obviously the best part is seeing the changes in your body and how they make you feel about yourself as well as how people treat you (though that can be depressing, on the flipside). Still, I'll take the attention for being hot over the attention for being nasty any day. Working out to failure feels good and I love the pump in the gym. It also feels great to have energy all of the time and to be strong enough to bend/open/break/lift heavy stuff. :)
How I Stay Motivated:
I read articles on sites like this, browse the forum, and look at pictures in the gallery and on BodySpace. I read the usual rags like M&F and Flex whenever I'm at the bookstore. It really motivates me when I see a guy out in the real world who has earned the right to wear a muscle tee and is showing off his arms or has a huge chest, anyone who has really worked hard on his body to build something great. I respect that more than I can say.
BB Accomplishments:
Losing a ton of weight, gaining strength, learning the labyrinth of supplements and macronutrients and training styles and exercises and physiology behind all of what we do (despite so damned much misinformation and myths out there!).

My fitness goal is to lose 60lbs of fat, retain and gain muscle.
Goal (Long):
I used to be over 300lbs and a size 46 (that's inches!) in pants... then I moved out of mom's house at 18 and I had to buy my own food and I had school and a fulltime job, so I lost it all down to 180lbs and a size 34 pants! I still felt fat, so I started to research bodybuilding and fitness nutrition. It made so much more sense. I started to incorporate what I learned and soon I was gaining muscle. Then I started dating, eating out, being lazy, etc... and now I'm back up to 240lbs and barely ever working out. I want to lose 60lbs and retain what muscle I have, as well as build as much muscle as possible. I'd love the 18-20" arms that some guys here have, big muscular chest and traps. I have great legs, but my upper body has always been lacking, and I hope I can improve that. I am giving myself one year to lose all of this fat (maybe more than I expect) and get down to a low bodyfat where I can better see changes in my body (and just so I'll know my "floor," you know?). Then I'll train for a couple of years naturally and see where that takes me. Maybe I'm a mesomorph lurking under that endomorph exterior! :)
Welcome to BB.Com Brad! Thanks for stoping my my BodySpace. It sounds like you have learned a lot and are ready to make some big changes. Good luck with your goals my friend!
