Jan, 2004
How I Started:
I ran track, and played basketball/football in HS. However, I didn't start working out regularly until I went to college @ San Diego State. They have an amazing gym (The ARC), and it was where my friends spent most of their time outside of school/bars. It wasn't until recently that I really became interested in actual bodybuilding...and now, I am officially addicted.
Why I Love It:
For the 1 to 2 hours a day that I spend at the gym, nothing else really matters. It's my alone time...the time I use to clear my head and forget about all of the stresses of life. And of course for what Arnold refers to as "The Pump!"
How I Stay Motivated:
By others. I look at someone, whether it be a celebrity or your average joe at the gym, and I tell myself --> "If they can do it, then I can do it!" And now that I've found/joined this site...it makes it that much easier to stay motivated. Particularly b/c when I am at home feeling lazy, my first instinct is to jump on the computer.
This was taken July of 2006 when I was working out pretty regularly but had no diet and no real routine. Weight is about 175 lbs.
1st time ever wieghing in at 200 lbs. - funny thing is that I always thought that I would be huge at this wieght - must be spread out pretty evenly - might cut from here?? might go to 205/210 lbs?? not sure...but I'm stoked that I've come this far in so little time!!
For some people this might not be a good thing...but for me...this is just short of amazing...in just under three months I (the life-long ectomorph) have gone from about 172 lbs to 200 lbs...just writing that doesn't seem right...at one point I honestly didn't believe that it was...
thanks!! I'm working on it, I don't have a digital camera and I just got my printer/copier yesterday, so hopefully I will be able to add more pictures pretty soon!
You can get bigger abs, but to make them stand out, the main thing is to lose the fat that covers them. However, according to your pictures, you don't have much fat already. So I'd better issue a warning: on the day my "great abs" pictures were taken, I was so (unwillingly) dehydrated that I could barely climb stairs for all the cramps. It looks great ... but healthy it ain't.
My ab routine? I like hanging leg raises, immediately followed by hanging knee raises (tip: focus on keeping your body from swinging). I also like cable crunches (tips: don't keep your back straight but imagine you're wrapping your midsection around a cylinder; six to twelve *clean* hard reps are better than a lot of easy ones). *Some* crunch machines are also excellent. Of course, each martial arts warm up I went through included some ab exercises. And I was often a target for hogu drills.
