When I Started:
2000
How I Started:
I had been working out on my own for a couple of years, when I hit a plateau and asked my husband for a series of training sessions (for Christmas) with local National B'bing competitor, Shelly Yakimchuk. He came through....and so did she!!! Next thing I knew, I was competing!
Why I Love It:
I love the self-confidence it gives me; and the challenge of bringing lagging bodyparts into competition form.
How I Stay Motivated:
My husband and I started a weight-lifting club at the local highschool, as well as taking on many private clients....and they keep me motivated! I really believe that competitors have to look at themselves as their greatest competition....I strive to put a better "package" onstage at every show.
BB Accomplishments:
I have won quite a number of titles, but 2006 was my banner year....at Saskatchewan Provincials, I took 1st in Women's Middleweight, 1st in Women's GrandMasters, Women's Overall Champion, and Best Female Poser. Then, in Sept., went on to Canadian Nationals to take 1st place in Women's GrandMasters!!! Also, I was chosen as Bodybuilding.com's Over-40 Bodybuilder Of The Week....and began getting emails from all over the world!! THAT really makes the hours in the gym feel worthwhile!! Since hen, I have also been voted Estevan &District Female Athlete of the Year (see post re: getting award from Gary Bettman); and most recently, South East Saskatchewan Athlete of the Year....the award will be given out later this month. Since I first posted this profile, I have also become accredited to judge at the Provincial level, and have been written up in the August 2007 issue of MuscleMag (page 207)!!
Do you tell your friends and/or family about your fitness goals?
Yes
Why or why not?
They help me keep motivated, for sure!!

What is the most common reason that somebody gets injured while lifting?
If in the gym, it is poor technique. But most b'blders I know
who have had rather serious injuries, it has always been outside
the gym, when their minds aren't focussed on form. FORM FIRST,

What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Hire a good coach. Ask around...look at the physiques in the gym,
ask questions. Don't waste time "reinventing the wheel"...hire
someone who's already been there...they are always worth far more

Here we are at May lst. That means that the Saskatchewan Novice show is done (April 4), and now we are gearing up for Saskatchewan Provincials in Saskatoon on June 13th. It should be a rockin' contest if the Novice was any indication. Then, there are always previously-qualified...
I just wanted to tell you what a huge inspiration you are for me. Thank you for being one of the women that refuse to accept weakness as a part of growing older. I hope I can become an inspiration to others one day.
You put me to shame. YOu look great and have encouraged me to work hard for my up coming show. You look great!!
