When I Started:
May, 2004
How I Started:
I have always had active, sports-minded lifestyle, and HS sports got it started! But as an adult, maintenance work-outs were just to stay in shape and not outgrow my clothes! That got old quickly, and I decided that I wanted to look better than the typical middle-aged guy! As work required weekly travel, I knew that expense account living would destroy my progress and motivation if I wasn't careful. I began hitting the gym after my workday, and as I began to see my body change I knew I would never go back to the old workouts again!
Why I Love It:
Seeing the results of my work in the gym, and the impact of healthy living and proper eating, all combine creating a drive that makes you keep on working! The feeling of the pump, the sense of accomplishment, and payoff for the hard work - all create an experience that explains why I do what I love to do!
How I Stay Motivated:
It's an addiction and lifestyle for me. I can't imagine a day NOT in the gym!

I've always wanted to have the body I saw in the bodybuilding mags. In my 20's, I was lifting all the time, and was told I should try competition, but didn't. Now, a few years later, life has rocked on, replacing the competition goal with other priorities. My focus now is on getting cut, keeping muscle, and less than 10% BF.
Randy continues to personify the definition of persistence. He drove hard for his achievements in the bodybuilding world, and is now inspiring us all with his transformation back from surgery. Thanks for your dedication and commitment to our sport.
Bookerbrother has shown us all how adversity, hardships, and tough times can be springboards in life. Those pitfalls prepare us for the next steps in our life, making us stronger. Rather than bitterness or anger, he's chosen humility and a spirit of giving to help others along the way; a true champion!
Not sure if this will resonate with many of the BB.com readers, but my hope is that it will. I've been recently "displaced" from my position in October '08, a victim of the illustrious banking industry upheaval. While that layoff brought about many changes to my life and that of...
