My training started upon entering High School. Reason was to get bigger and stronger to play football. I was suspended on the 1st day of my freshmen year for fighting on the bus so I missed football tryouts. Bad thing maybe but it gave me a whole year to train with the weights. Every day for 365 days including running. I was very motivated and by start of Sophmore year, I put on well over 20 pounds and was running 10 miles 3 times a week. Needless to say I was the only sophmore suiting up for the Varisty team. By senior year, I was on the All County team and some other big accomplishments as well as a full College Scholarship. I declined the football scholarship for several reasons and took up bodybuilding. When I graduated High School I was 225 at 5'11" and within 3 years I was 260 and yes I was using steroids. (sorry fans but it's true. I can not lie). By 1989 I was totally over the size matters thingy and quit steroids totally and since then, have maintained a natural weight between 210 and 220 and feel much better about it. Do I miss the size,, sometimes until I remember how cumbersome I was back then. Not good when your other sport was Martial Arts.
Why I Love It:
As mentioned above; it's all about health and fitness. There is nothing more attractive then a well built natural physic. I view such physics as works of art. Like that of Auguste Rodin's statue of "the thinker" and Greek works such as "the discus thrower". Notice none of that ancient artwork resembles Ron Coleman? lol
How I Stay Motivated:
My motivation is second nature. I've been at this for so long, training has become second nature to me. I don't train on motivation. My drive comes from intensity which comes immediately upon entering the gym and touching the 1st piece of Iron. I compare myself to no other and compete with only myself.
BB Accomplishments:
Very easy question to answer. The absolute major accomplishment has to be the fact I've been training now for exactly 30 years and never quit.
In regards to bodybuilding, it would be winning a National qualifier but that means little to me since I was taking growth enhancing drugs at the time.
NOTE: MY LIFTING STATS ARE NOT 1 REP MAX. I DO NOT DO THEM. STATS MENTIONED ARE IN THE 4-6 RANGE.
SQUATS ARE LOW WEIGHT DUE TO OLD BACK INJURY, I CANNOT SUPPORT MASSIVE WEIGHT ON BACK WITHOUT LOWER BACK SWELLING AND DAYS OF HEADACHES AND BACK PAIN. I go heavy on presses etc.
