When I Started:
1981
How I Started:
In my twenties, I started lifting weights at the same time I was doing a lot of rock climbing. I never considered myself a bodybuilder; I've always been muscular but also slightly overweight. I'd always secretly harbored a desire to be more muscular, but I never made a real commitment to it. I always approached working out in a laid back way – I never set goals, tracked progress or addressed my diet. When I got married and had kids, both climbing and working out took a back seat, and over 20 years I gradually lost muscle and gained weight – about 20 pounds net – at my worst I was 205 pounds when my natural weight should be about 185 (or even 175 if I'm not working out). A year ago I re-committed myself to getting fit and strong.
Why I Love It:
During the years I wasn't working out in an organized way, I felt (and was) flabby and tired. Since I started again last year, I feel more energetic and grounded, and feel that I'm working toward a goal finally.
How I Stay Motivated:
Tracking my workouts has made a huge difference in keeping motivated. I look back at the weights I used 6 months ago and feel that I've really made progress. And I can see the areas where I've been lazy.

My goals for 2009 overall will be to get back on track, stay on track and not get injured.
I'm a bit slow getting started in C6 challenge, but I continue to find the Cx's a motivator and a good way to remember my goals. So, that said, my C6 goals (Jan to Mar 31, & compared to Jan 10) are:
Strength:
Bench press - currently 200 lb x 6; goal=250 x 6
Pull up b.w. 10 times
Bar Squat - 210 lb x 6
Weight:
Weight - 175 lb. (currently 188)
Get waist back down to 34" - currently 36.
Get b.f. down to 18 - currently 21.
Weight Goal:
I want to LOSE 15 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
12%

So, it's been 4-5 months that I was inactive. The sciatica pain was bad for more than a month, and I had to rest a lot longer to make sure I did not re-injure myself.
In June I started back at the local YMCA, and did light weights to start the process of getting in shape, and after a while...
You are doing great buddy.
Do you find that losing weight effects your max lifts? I am not down that much buy my bench press isn't going well.
I might have to just push myself more.
Thanks. Its been an interesting experience to say the least. I am so lucky that I had the motivators and support to acheive my dream condition. Thanks again.
Great progress yourself--it's really coming through. I was sore after the yard work I did...was quite suprised. I'm trying to make it so I'm superdad--that I can weed the garden, play with the kids, the wife, clean the dishes fix the mower and post a blog in the same stream of action. Wish me luck!
