When I Started:
1998
How I Started:
Born in a war-torn 3rd world country where women were viewed as prize possessions & being anything else other than a homemaker was taboo; along w/witnessing 2 battles, I'm extremely thankful for coming back home to the U.S. & having the opportunity of living the "American Dream" right now, so I try not to take anything or anyone for granted. I began weight training to get my upper body stronger for collegiate tennis; counteract med school stress; distract from combat memories; get my 6-pack back post-babies; release work frustrations; better overcome life's obstacles & fight mother nature!
Why I Love It:
I continue intense training especially since it has helped me to recover after healing from shoulder/other injuries & hernia surgery. Working out also always explodes natural endorphins, energizes me tremendously & empowers me psychologically/physically; it gives me more confidence both personally & has helped me to excel professionally in a surgical field dominated by men, allowing me to live by example- teaching my patients, students, athletes, & children about living a fit & healthy life.
How I Stay Motivated:
Being on this site seeing everyone's awesome attitude & getting fantastic feedback about inspiring others; also by competing in fitness shows a couple of times a year I can keep fiercely focused. I also train male pro & other competitive athletes so I have to remain strong & tough myself in order to drive them beyond the max!
BB Accomplishments:
#1 AR Women's Championship Tennis 1983.
Athletic scholarship UALR 1980-84.

After dislocating/subluxing my shoulder on Obstacle Course at Tri-Fit Nationals 2007 & again in 2008, still managed to max out 50reps on bench.

Goal (Long):
I started lifting weights when I was playing collegiate tennis on scholarship to get my upper body stronger to help w/serving & volleys. I then had to give it up for med school but picked up teaching aerobics to keep balance in my life. When I decided to go into Orthopaedic Surgery I realized that in order for me to use huge & heavy power tools to operate, I had to have more than just leverage or big assistants; thus more motive for gaining strength & staying stronger! Now it's a large part of my life. I can't imagine not being able to workout...In fact, my children have started lifting w/me & absolutely love it! I want to teach my daughter that she can be strong yet feminine, tough yet gentle; to be resilient & independent to take care of herself-carrying on what my mother taught me when she brought me to America over 35 years ago. I want my son to have the confidence in his own body, to feel masculine & protect his sister if need be...I also want to show other women that you can have it all, as long as you're determined & not allow any obstacles to deter you from living your dreams!
Without being able to workout hard for 5 weeks before & after my hernia surgery, I gained 10 pounds of unwanted weight & lost my 6-pack abs. Being extremely frustrated not only physically but more so mentally, I was determined to get my fit body back, now more than ever, just in time...
sure i guess..I'm not eating much of it, only good weight im tryin to add in the off season..im too dedicated to lose what ive worked so hard for...talk to you soon
