This is me at 238 pounds. I am hoping you will be seeing a lot less of me in the future.
Gained a pound and a half inch on my waist. Started a new workout routine this week to try and force some change. My diet was not very strict, so I am feeling a lot softer this week.
Almost halfway through my tour in Iraq, lost 40 pounds, looking to lose another 15 and put on some more muscle.
Goal (Long):
UPDATE: Well, I am seven months into my journey and I have lost the initial 40 pounds I was trying to lose, now I am going to try and tackle another 15 pounds to get down to 185. I am almost have way through with tour here in Iraq and I have done pretty good at taking advantage of the first half and hope to accomplish even greater things in the second half.
Original: I am currently in Iraq for the next year and want to take advantage of the time here by losing at least 40 pounds of fat. I am 5'11" at about 238 pounds. My plan is a mixture of cardio and weightlifting to accomplish the weight loss and transfer the remaining weight into muscle to get my fat percentage down. I am experienced in the gym, but due to long bouts of travel I have fallen away from a routine and gotten the stereotypical 30-year old mid-section (love handles). My major short-coming is the diet side of the house, which I know is critical to getting the lean chiseled body I would love to have. I am in the process of reading up to see if I can find a diet best suited for my goals.
Do you tell your friends and/or family about your fitness goals?
Yes
Why or why not?
The main reason I tell them is in hopes of them supporting my eating habits. I do not need help on the gym part, but eating good foods is such a huge part of it. What do you think about people who "grunt" loudly while working out? Do you do it?
I almost laugh as I wait for their eyes to pop out of their head
Well, I have been hitting the gym and eating clean for 6 months now and I figure I would capture some of the highlights and some of the things I have learned along the way. The highlights of my journey so far have been 38 pounds lost and 9 inches off my waist. Those two things along with...
Right now my split is weights one day and cardio/abs the next and rotate through.
A day off is incorporated on days I am feeling a day of rest is needed, otherwise I just chug through. So far, breaking up the lift days and cardio days has let me go with few rest days as my cardio days...
Hi Earl...thanks and thanks for keeping in touch. I enjoy tracking your progress...very steady changes. I can see more tightness in just the last month for you. Really impressive. Watch that diet...it's all coming together for you.
yeah..me too :0) I'm on light intensity training 2x a day for cardio though. Trying to gain some muscle so nothing intense on the cardio end of things.
Ya its tricky trying to cut down and not sacrifice the muscle you just put on, just take your time and don't cut out anymore than 500 calories daily to keep that muscle on.

Yeah I am still trying to put on muscle. It is real hard to do for me. I take in more protein and push harder through my workouts, but it don't come easy.
