How I Started:
My best friend to this day Mike talked me into going into the high school weight room. When I was in high school we had a lot of very succesful powerlifting teams so it was a powerlifting orientated weight room. Not pretty and not big but it was all you would need.
Why I Love It:
When I first started training I weighed only 185 flabby pounds and by the end of the year I was 230 muscular pounds. It feels great to have the power to change your body type and to feel strong.
How I Stay Motivated:
I have never felt like I was in great shape and I have always wanted that cut ripeed six pack look so when I was younger that was my motivation but now that I am older my motivation is to be healthy for my new born son.

I want to keep whatever muscle I have while loosing 85 lbs of bodyfat.
Goal (Long):
I have been trying to get in shape since I started weightlifting my senior year in high school. Since then I have had many false starts and injuries. My weight has yo yoed dramatically from a low of 192 lbs to my all time high of 297 lbs. I now have a 4 month old son which anyone can tell you is more than enough motivation to get in shape. I want to stay verticle to see him grow up and I also want to lead by example and show him how to live a healthy and active life. I also breifly trained in amateur boxing and MMA as a hobby and would like to get in good enough shape to get back into it.
What type of injury was it? How long were you injured? How did you recover?
I have had back problems since I was a kid and it acts up once in a while. I have strained it a few times working out. I have also had damaged rotator cuffs in both shoulders and various muscle strains. I had to do rehab for my shoulders and working out smarter are the only ways to recover. stopping working out is the worst thing your can do. When I hurt my left shoulder I didnt work out for 3 months and rehab and gettng back in the gym was pure hell because of all the scar tissue that has built up. The only way to break it up is to get the joint moving again. I was in pain every time I worked out for another 2 months and had to ice my shoulder every time after my workout on and off for about 2 hours a night.I have had back problems since I was a kid and it acts up once in a while. What is the most common reason that somebody gets injured while lifting?
Not taking the time to learn proper lifting form or ignoring what proper form is from either too much enthusiam or too much ego. Using way too much weight for the movement.

What is the most dangerous weightlifting exercise? Why?
Any movement your not doing with correct form. I do beleive there are some movements that are just dangerous regardless because of the biomechanics involved and the stress they put certain joints under such as : Behind the neck presses
Behind the neck pulldowns
Behind the neck pullups
Hack Squats
Narrow grip upright rowsAny movement your not doing with correct form. I do beleive there are some movements that are just dangerous regardless because of the biomechanics involved and the stress they put certain joints unde...more
