Overall Goal: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "Holy ****! What a ride!"
High school football. I wasn't very big so my Dad bought a Sears weight set, a tub of mass gainer and had me drinking orange juice with a couple of raw eggs in it (Rocky style) to put on weight and build strength.
When I went to college I didn't have a choice. I was going to have to train with weights a hell of a lot more if I was going to compete with the athletes at that level.
I joined the Navy more than 20 years ago and fitness is a big part of my job. The workouts however have been more calisthenic and cardio (run/swim) oriented for most of that time.
Fairly recently I made the switch to more of a functional strength workout program. My wife has also incorporated a cleaner, healthier diet into our programs, and it has made a difference! More energy, faster recovery and healthier than ever.
Why I Love It:
Truth be told, if I could eat ice cream while sitting on the couch and still get the same results...
However, I love being able to operate and train at a high level and this is the way to maintain that edge.
How I Stay Motivated:
My wife (Xercisegrl)!
Beyond that, the drive to excel has to come from within. The only way to continually improve is by challenging yourself physically and mentally every day.

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "Holy ****! What a ride!"
Goal (Long):
To maximize my cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power,
coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy (see the general physical skills in my workout program section for a more detailed explanation).
Xercisegrl is my wife. She is the biggest inspiration in my life. She is, at the same time, a loving wife and mother, intense, knowledgeable and I can't stop looking at her without a sense of awe! She has one of the toughest workout routines I have seen and maintains a positive attitude despite medical setbacks. She embodies what this lifestyle is all about and she does it with class and style. There is no one better.
A common observation by people who spend time on military bases is the apparent lack of an effective strength and conditioning program for the majority of our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines or Airmen. Meals are typically served up in the mess hall or galley in the same manner and with the same...
Hey, Dave. Yep, the holiday swoon is here. I'm doing great - about to go spend time with loved ones. Merry Christmas to you and family. See you in 2010!
I got my new sneakers, so I'm set! Good idea on the matching socks though. Believe it or not, the fat is not coming off although my changes tend to be made in one fell swoop toward the end of the month. That's why I try not to go crazy checking my BF all the time.
The cooking show is chugging along. The technical part is a huge headache, but all obstacles must fall before my ferocious determination. Had some "so-called" ice cream from the Wellness Meats site you turned me onto. The wife went nuts. No dairy, no sugar and chock full of super nutrients. I'm also hooked on their beef jerky that is amazing. Great recommendation, that wellness meats.
I'm not sure about what you mean, but the only pain I had was lat DOMS. No out of the ordinary kind of pain. I concentrate on feeling the pull up with my back and really don't feel fatigued in my arms.
The pullups are all in the timing. I didn't allow more than MAYBE a minute's rest at a clip. If I could only get one or two, then that's what I went for.
Dave, how are you & that lovely wife of yours doing? We getting ready to head down to Vegas to spend the holidays with the kids & grandaughter.
Enjoy the holidays & hopefully we'll get to hook up in 2010....
That is so very thoughtful of you - I really appreciate it. School's been hectic - it's my last week of finals - wish me luck? Training is going very well - and I haven't forgotten about more food videos - hope to work on those over my winter break - how are you and the family doing?
OMG, good luck. I hope your dog makes it through with as little anxiety as possible. LOL about Herm. He'd probably be THE best tour guide around. And thanks :)
