When I Started:
1951
How I Started:
I contracted polio at the age of 20 months in 1947. This left me with severely weakened muscles on my left side and a shortened left leg. After four months in hospital I was put on a rigorous physiotheraphy program. I became serious about exercise at age two.
I have had three corrective hip surgeries, two hip replacements and a motorcycle accident which resulted in seven broken bones in my right leg. All my life I have been rebuilding my strength and my muscles.
Why I Love It:
Bodybuilding is meditative. After a stressful day at work I love to put on my earphones, listen to blues and concentrate on lifting iron.
How I Stay Motivated:
Results motivate me. Looking through old workout logs shows me where I came from and what I might hope to accomplish.
BB Accomplishments:
Looking fit at age 62 is a major accomplishment. Improving strength and size in weakened muscles is also a major accomplishment.
I would like to gain 10 pounds of lean muscle mass over the next year.
Goal (Long):
I am pleased with the gains I have made over the past 10 months. I have impoved my nutrition, cardio and weight training. This has been more than I expected at 62 years of age with an artificial hip. If I can continue at the same rate for the next year my life will be complete.
usually 10, although I like to vary my reps going as high as 20 and as low as 6 depending on the weight. I like my last rep of my last set to leave me feeling exhausted.

How long do you rest between sets on average? Why?
I let my heart rate determine the amount of rest between sets. When my breathing returns to normal I start the next set.

What is your favorite bicep building exercise?
dumbbell curls (incline, hammer, thumbs up and alternate)
I have reduced my waist by 1 1/2 inch, shoulders have increased by 1 1/2 inches, chest has increased by 1 inch, neck, quads, forearms and upper arms by 3/4 inches, and calves have increased by 1/4 inch.
Thank you for leading the way for others. I wish I saw more women in the gym, but the ratio has remained the same for years. I will be 60 in 3 months & have been lifting since I was 27, seriously since '06. Off for last year due to back issue and now back getting stronger than ever. Again, thank you. It helps me so much to see others in my age category defying the old aging belief system!
