I've lifted weights off and on since I was in high school.
The best shape I have ever been in was when I was 50. My goal was to be in the best shape of my life by my 50th birthday.
I jogged 2 miles everyday and lifted.
By the time my birthday came I weighed 190 lbs, down from 240, and I had a 33 inch waist. After reaching that goal for some reason I quit and never touched a weight again until a couple years ago. I started lifting again 2 or 3 times a week. I would lift for 2 or 3 months then quit for a month or so.
I retired on July 1, 2009 and before I retired I decided to dedicate part of my life to exercise on a daily basis. Since I didn't work anymore I decided my new job would be working on my body. I got serious about 3 weeks ago and started tracking what I was doing. I wanted to jog but it has been over 100 deg where I live all summer so I bought an elliptical. A couple of weeks ago I was looking for exercse & diet software so I could track what I was doing. I have been buying vitamins from BBC for a couple of years but never payed much attention to Bodyspace. So while looking for some software I looked at Bodyspace. Low and behold everything I wanted was there. I Looked at alot of members progress pics and I was impressed by everyone I looked at. I took some pics of myself and didn't realize how bad I looked. There is no excuse in the world for me to look this way with all the time I have on my hands now. I can't stop getting old but I don't have to look or feel bad on the way.
So here I am.
Why I Love It:
It makes me feel better physically and mentally. And, it makes me feel better about myself. I have a feeling of accomplishment after every workout.
How I Stay Motivated:
I am staying motivated by looking at progress pictures on Bodyspace and then looking in the mirror.

davjourchanged Weight from 218.6 lbs. to 215.8 lbs., a 2.8 lb. loss in 31 days
Every time I met a goal I quit. So now I have no goals but I do have alot of wants.
Goal (Long):
Continue healthy diet and exercise program until I am room temperature, reducing bodyfat, waist, weight and gaining muscle. Be in competition with myself to continue improving.
I am older than most of you reading this but I don't look bad for my age. I am just an old girl trying to stay young and attractive. My owner, some guy by the name of Dave, found me and brought me back to my original looks when I was young and pretty. Until he came along I had given up...
You are making great strides in your your fitness journey and I congratulate you on all of your hard work. Continue to challenge yourself and always strive to be the best that you can be. Stay strong and focused and believe in your ability to reach your goals.
Remember:
Some people use age as a convenient excuse. 'I'm to old too start, or, 'I could never do that at my age.' Other people, though, go on to achieve their greatest accomplishments in life in their later years.
