Overall Goal: I'm a competitive Powerlifter. My new goal is to improve my strength @ the bottom of my Squat. I haven't been training deep enough. I want to also train more in my new Bench Shirt.
Fit Status:
Westside Barbell style is jumping all my lifts and removing all my injuries. I wish I would have listened sooner.
I was a sickly child who was always being picked on by bullies. I started Wrestling and started weight-training in the off season. I gained too much muscle weight and lost my spot on the team. I was done with cutting too much weight and not being allowed to gain muscle. Within less than 2 years I put 20lbs (16% increase in muscle mass) of pure muscle on without knowing much about nutrition or correct training.
Why I Love It:
Weight-training saved my life. If I wouldn't have started weight-training I would be the sickly underweight guy I was. At age 43 I destroy all of my childhood friends. I use to be the last one picked for team sports and now I could run circles around any of those guys. I can now even run circles around most 20somethings.
How I Stay Motivated:
I just look in the mirror at what I've accomplished. I don't want to eat at McDonald's because I know it will destroy all of what I've built over the last 29 years. I want to be in the gym instead of the bar because I know I'm doing something good for myself instead of doing nothing. Most people watch sports while I do sports.
BB Accomplishments:
WNPF US Opened Champ 165 lb
USPF San Diego Deadlift Champion Overall
USPF Muscle Beach Deadlift Champion 148 lb
USPF Muscle Beach Masters 40-44 Champ
USPF American Record holder Deadlift 165lb Masters 1 @ 507lbs
many other accomplishments

I'm a competitive Powerlifter. My new goal is to improve my strength @ the bottom of my Squat. I haven't been training deep enough. I want to also train more in my new Bench Shirt.
Goal (Long):
Once I get comfortable in my new Bench shirt I will will shatter a 400lb Bench.
Once I train the bottom part of my Squat with deeper Raw Box Squatting I will destroy a 600lb Squat.
Hi Ian,
I ended up with a big comeback during the Deadlift part of the Muscle Beach Powerlifting contest Saturday. I broke my American Deadlift Record by pulling 507lbs.
My BodySpace is up and running. I'll be blogging and putting up videos o a regular basis.
Thanks, Dan
Hi Dan . Stopped by to see what was new , and what new records you had set. Keep it up Man . I'm back in the Gym after the Flu , goin heavy tryin to get strong , add the size I want .
See ya later .
Dan, thanks for taking the time to read my blog. Great response and you obviously know how to set goals and crush them, which explains why you have some out of this world lifts. Most people would look at the bar and walk you, but you get under it and never look back. Now that’s what this is all about!
Dan, I only used a squat suit once, never used a deadlift suit, and a bench shirt for a couple of years. So I have been mostly Raw for most of my lifting career. However, I only cut out knee wraps these last two years. Never would have guessed it but my knees are way better now! Now instead of squatting deep with my knees the weight is shifted into my hips. I am only 29 lbs from my best squat with knee wraps and I expect to pass that by next spring. Raw is the way to go!
