When I Started:
Aug, 1989
How I Started:
It all started in 1989 when entering college, i was tired of being the fat kid at school, so I decided to enter the local gym where all the big guys in my area workout, this work as a motivation of course. I behaved and trained for 3 years and I saw awesome results in those days. No more laughing, no more jokes suddenly I started gaining respect back then. But my studies started hitting me hard then med school and that figure disappeared under a pile of new body fat. During my med school years I tried to hit the gym but I never found that body again, I used the wrong approach to training and even worse the wrong approach to diet. Ironic isn't it since I was in med school and all the nutrition knowledge at that moment didn't helped me, worst yet I didn't applied.
Why I Love It:
my life working out was great I loved the first time I felt a pump in all my muscles also the gaining of strength and stamina was incredible. At that time bodybuilding helped me lose a lot of body fat and gain a lot of muscle, I went from a pant size 42 to a size 35 and I was 225 with probably a quarter of the percent of body fat I have now. I felt great and look more healthier and stronger in those days I could bench 315 for 10 reps and squat 425 for 8 and for leg press I won't even go there, remembering this now gives me goosebumps. that's why I return this time to repeat my goals of 18 years ago.
How I Stay Motivated:
Incredibly by looking closely at the photos that I took since I started in body space. Like I said earlier under this 37% of body fat lies the man who 18 years ago made me proud of what I saw (physically of course) in the mirror. My heart tells me that he is hidden in here and that I need to find him, and also with this size being at risk of every common condition out there hypertension, Diabetes, Heart conditions made me think twice before continuing this behavior. If I want to see my children grow, be with my wife and even see grandchildren, I need to do this now.
BB Accomplishments:
I never consider myself a bodybuilder because in those times I trained hard but I didn't diet well, so there was still a little fat covering me but I did:
bench: 335lb, squatted: 425, Barbell curl: 135, Leg press 900, lat pull 200, and I could do dips easily, I will never forget those numbers.

Being below the 300 pounds for the first time in more than ten years, makes me realize that I will fulfill my goals
Goal (Long):
As long as I can remember I have always been fat. Suffered through childhood been mock by my friends, because I was fat. Right after high school I decided to start exercising through bodybuilding, it was during that short little time in college that I got in the best shape of my life, as I went from being made fun of to be admired by the same people.
In the time that I finish college and started Med school I began gaining weight and started to see the number piled up, first the high 200 then the dreaded 300"s (not the movie). I was in and out of the gym several times but never like in college and yo yo diet for a few years.
Now being a father of two girls and a boy (coming soon), also being a primary care physician I want to see my girls grow up healthy and strong, I don't want them to follow my unhealthy footsteps, I want the best for them and that means doing the best for my, that means losing once and for all my excessive weight.
As a physician is also very difficult to see people like me who are sick and say to them "you need to lose weight so your condition may stabilize". You need to see the look on their faces when you say to them the same thing that I need to apply.
I want to change my body, I want to be like I was in college even better. I want to see my children grow, I want to talk to my patients with more confidence without worrying that they will judge me because of how I look, I want to tell them, "you can do it" and I will help you.

when you have a body like mine that can be the black version of the "Michelin man" ( in other words the endomorphic type), sometimes is difficult to accept that changes will come slowly.
It's incredible how fast one can put pounds of fat in our body and how difficult is to get rid...
