First my goals were more bodybuilding oriented but I never got past 195 lbs without getting chunky. Now I've gotten into the endurance thing and cut down to about 165 lbs for races. I've sacrificed a lot of muscle in the name of speed, but so far its been worth it.
Why I Love It:
I get out of it exactly what I put in.
How I Stay Motivated:
"The difference between great people and everyone else is that great people create their lives actively, while everyone else is created by their lives,
passively waiting to see where life takes them next. The difference between the two is the difference between living fully and just existing."
Michael E. Gerber
BB Accomplishments:
In 2007 I had heart surgery. After that went well, I decided to see what my body was made of, so I got into endurance multisport. Even though I have a long way to go to make up for the cardiovascular deficit my heart put me in, I've come a long way and plan on exploring my potential.

What type of injury was it? How long were you injured? How did you recover?
Heart surgery, and 3 serious bike wrecks this season which forced me to withdraw from two races. Also one minor wreck at Emmett... I fan stepped out onto the road when I was warming up on my bike and I ate it trying not to take him out! Both me and my bike were fine though, and it didn't affect my race. What is the most common reason that somebody gets injured while lifting?
Hands down, the answer to this is POOR FORM, and/or trying to lift TOO MUCH! Ego lifting doesn't get you anywhere, unless you know what you're doing.
INSANELY cold! Wow... I've never been in water that cold before... lots of folks with useless hands & feet in the transitions; the weather was pretty cold, too; so, it made the race a lot different than I was expecting. Good training for the next one, though! So, now I'm changing up my approach and trying a few new things... cause I am SLOW! :) (that's ok, though. when you're slow, there's lots of room to improve!)
(sorry) just answered my own question by reading your race results! Sorry about the brake pads... no fun; just think of it as resistance training for your next event! :)
I will probably start doing Wed p.m. or Sat a.m. workouts with Michelle's group after this weekend. I wanted to stick with my training plan up through Redfish; after that, I want to give Michelle's group a try.
Hey, Andrew! Hope you're doing great! Did you run the 70.3 this weekend?
Congrats on the Camel's Back dua win - that's great! I am good friends with the father of the kid that came in second. (he's a very strong runner)
Stop by and say 'hi' sometime! I'm the *very* messy desk outside of Kelly H's office.
really?? the swim was great.. clear water :) the bike is a double loop with quite a few hills.. the run is also a double loop but flat.. LOTS of fans (except portions of the bike).. i really enjoyed my experience there :)
I'm so happy you are doing well :) Rest time sounds really good..I am preparing for my first figure comp in Nov. I am training hard and learning from everyone here!
Well, I actually teach gymnastics to little kids at The Little Gym. I workout at Gold's, which is thankfully right next door now....no excuses to get my butt there!
So good to hear from you! Good input about your P2C.. It's high on my list, and I've test ridden one. I get a discount for The Specialized Transition, but can't find anywhere where it compares to some of Cervelo's bike. However, feeling indifferent because I'm seeing so many Cervelo's. So, checking out some Felt's, and Orbea. Also want to check out Blue? Any input on those brands?
hey you, whats going on? See you did Cour'dlene... Hows Boise training going? used to ride some river roads around there, but now just in Seattle area mostly.. Sweet bike, is it new or recent? the P2C has awesome reviews, why did you pick it to purchase? (in the middle of research right now) Preparing for Clearwater Florida!
I don't have any road bike races lined up right now. I still need to get more comfortable with my new clips. :) Two races I want to do next year though are the Wasatch Back (200 mile run split between 12 team members) running from Logan to Park City and the St. George Marathon. Both would be firsts for me. Right now my running is lmited. I'm prepping for a figure comp, and my coach doesn't want me running at all. She doesn't want me to lose any more weight. Hmmm...how's that for crazy?
what a great story! I'm happy you have turned something around for the best. What a huge accomplishment. I've completed 2 sprint tris, finally got clips on my bike, and developed a huge passion for running just this year. LOVE it! Swimming is my weakness. Could never do an Olympic - would drown for sure.
