When I Started:
Apr, 2003
How I Started:
No health-related issues had been diagnosed at the time, but I knew they were inevitable if I kept up at the pace I was going--I was 5'-5", 220 Lbs, 14 years old.
Why I Love It:
It's something to do. Before I would sit down and play a video game of some sort when I was bored, now I just go lift.
How I Stay Motivated:
It was probably the biggest goal I have ever set out to do--that its, to lose weight and become healthier than your average teenager, being that I was completely the opposite prior. Therefore, to stay motivated, I just try to remember where I was and where I am now. It definitely doesn't get any easier as you grow older and take on many more responsibilities (school, work, etc.), but when I can successfully manage my time to make everything fit into the tiny 24-hour time slot alloted to us each day, I get motivated to keep it up...and motivation for me is tough right now.
BB Accomplishments:
Obviously, losing all of the weight that I did (220 to 155) was a huge accomplishment for me. But now, I need to finish what I started. Currently I am at about 210 Lbs., much healthier than I was 5 years ago, but still have a lot of work left in my opinion. I need to eat more often and; also, I need to find the motivation to walk down to the fitness center to work out MORE OFTEN. I think my remedy is here--spring.
This picture was taken at Christmas in 2001, before the word workout was even apart of my vocabulary. I believe I weighed between 215-225 pounds and was in the range of 62-64" tall.
About 6 years ago I made a life-changing decision to begin to live healthier. In doing so I lost about 60 pounds and 15% body fat. From there, I joined football my freshman year of high school and began to put on some muscle. I went in and out of the lifting routine--until I got a job working at the local gym. Ever since then, I have continued to grow stronger, but losing those few extra pounds has always been an issue for me.
It is my duty to finish what I have started. This is not the first time I have attempted to "finish what I started," but I hope it is my last. Upon completion of that task, I would like to gradually become stronger (health/age permitting). I hope that I will have acquired habits of living a healthy lifestyle by then and can carry on with them, maintaining my physique for as long as I can.
I guess I would say I am entering phase 2--starting today.
Weight Goal:

What is your favorite cardiovascular exercise? Why?
I'm usually a fan of the stationary bicycle because I get to sit down for a while, and I've found that it helps add mass to my thighs. My close second would have to be the good old treadmill. Although I've never been a fan of running, I feel like I've accomplished something if I can get off of the treadmill with 2-3 miles ran, and a few hundred calories burned.I'm usually a fan of the stationary bicycle because I get to sit down for a while, and I've found that it helps add mass to my thighs. Do you monitor your heart rate while doing cardio?
Yes
Do you use a heart rate monitor? Which one?
Nope. I'm old fashioned, I guess--I check it by putting a finger or two on my jugular vein, but it works for me.
What heart rate do you aim for while doing cardio? Why?
I usually attempt to sustain a heart rate somewhere in the area of 140-165. Anything above that, for me, is a little bit too intense and I can't last too long as of right now at those levels.

What are your secrets for making healthy food taste great?
I don't really have any problems with the taste of "healthier" food. If I can make it into a sandwich, I'm happy.
