I was a gymnast and dancer growing up, and a college-level cheerleader. I was blessed to have some really knowlegable coaches who emphasized the importance of conditioning for strength, performance, and injury prevention.
Why I Love It:
I love the high I get from challenging myself in the gym. I feel like with each rep of every lift, I'm bettering myself, not just physically, but mentally too. There are so many days when I wake up, the negativity creeps in, and I think, 'I have no idea how I'm gonna make it through today,' and then somehow, I find the strength to not only train, but to push myself harder and farther than I ever thought was possible.
How I Stay Motivated:
Right now, my motivation is to simply be the best I can possibly be, in all aspects of my life. I competed in my 3rd show this year and did really well, but right now I'm focusing on getting back on track with my career, rebuilding relationships with friends and family, and trying to achieve balance in my life. I will continue to lead the same healthy lifestyle I've always lived, with good nutrition and oif course, that intense training I love!
When I'm competing...
I'm very competitive in nature. On days when I feel sore and can't get out of bed, or during training when my biceps are burning like hell and I feel like I can't push it any farther, I remember that there's ALWAYS someone else out there training for the same thing I am...and when it comes to EFFORT, I won't settle for 2nd best.

"I push for one more day, I push for one more rep, I push to get stronger, go higher, get faster, and be bigger...I push because I know somewhere out there, there's someone training for the very same thing I am...and when it comes to effort, I won't settle for second-best." ~*Me*~
No shows planned for me for a while. I will continue training hard every day to challenge myself and better my physique, but I need a break from 3-a-days and routine practices to focus on my relationship with God, my health, my career, and my family.

What type of injury was it? How long were you injured? How did you recover?
Just minor sprains and strains

What is the most common reason that somebody gets injured while lifting?
Not properly warming up on things like chest and shoulders. Also letting their ego get in the way...again, form is sooo crucial. Use correct form before going up in weight. And if you're confused about a particular exercise but want to give it a try, ask a trainer or an experienced lifter. Not properly warming up on things like chest and shoulders.
