i always dabbled in weights for like a week (at most) at a time when i'd get bored. but one day, i looked in the mirror and hated every inch of what i saw. plus, i felt weak,which was something of a first for me. i had a lot of lingering back pain from a spinal reconstuctive surgery in 2000. my doc back then had advised weightlifting, but as a stubborn teen i rebelled against the medical advice and spent the following years in pain and discomfort. i never felt 'whole' after the surgery and missed out on sports in middle school, which was yet another first. as a former dancer/ gymnast/ soccer player/ runner, all of the above were suddenly out of the question. so last year, i finally decide to actually try but only as a means to kick my smoking habit. and surprisingly it worked.
I partied and slacked over the better part of last year. But now i'm back!!
Why I Love It:
lifting weights is more of an emotional & psychological outlet with the added bonus of its physical effects. so here i am, still trying. progress is slow, but so long as it's steady, i'm happy! watch out, who knows? maybe someday i'll be on your tv screen!!
How I Stay Motivated:
catching glimpses of my fat. EEWWW....
