When I Started:
How I Started:
I did gymnastics, track, and cheerleading as a child, and my peers teased me about having muscular legs and calves. Then, I thought I was weird, because as an African-American adolescent, young men in my culture did not consider muscular physiques attractive. In response, I gained weight as a teenager to hide the muscle in my lower body. It was not until I became older and realized that my physique was a blessing and not a curse. Now, I look only to myself, and my Creator, for approval.
Before finishing my undergraduate degree in biology and psychology, I joined the U.S. Army to earn some extra money for college. While I was in the service, I dated another soldier, a recreational bodybuilder, who suggested I compete in a fitness or figure contest. At the time, I had no interest in competing, but I never forgot his advice. Now, I'm so involved in fitness and nutrition that it's the natural next step. In the Army, I earned the nick name of "Gunz" because of my arms.
Why I Love It:
Weightlifting is a stress reliever and natural antidepressant. For the last few years, my life has been a roller coaster. Instead of using food as a coping mechanism, I lift weights.
How I Stay Motivated:
I am an endo-mesomorph. Therefore, if I do not stay active, all of this muscle will be covered with multiple layers of fat. Maintaining a certain appearance is a confidence booster. Therefore, I force myself to work out.
To fulfill a dream deferred. This will be the first part of many life-altering changes to come.
Goal (Long):
Elite M&F and Carolina Clash: This is an update to my contest prep. I obtained a stress fracture in my right wrist that derailed my training. Therefore, I was unable to compete this season. We all go through these trials, so I'm trying to remain positive. In the military, I worked tirelessly to become an example of impeccable physical fitness and an occupational expert. In school, my objectives are to continually strive for knowledge and outperform my peers. Therefore, uncontrollable setbacks are unwanted sources of dismay. Bodybuilding attracts type-a perfectionists, so these statements ring true for many of you. I'm looking forward to eventually regaining the strength that I lost and hitting the stage in '09. Feel free to cheer me on, and I will do the same for you.

I want to LOSE 10 lb

9%

Sorry to hear about the wrist brace! What happened? I hurt mine moving a 50" TV last year and it took awhile before it was normal...very frustrating...so I can relate. Anyway...write me back when you have time. I hope your pet is ok.
It's okay about the delay. My laptop was stolen shortly after I wrote you so I haven't been online much until recently when it was replaced. Sorry to hear about your family being affected by the economy :-/
So where do you go to school that requires you to commute?
