When I Started:
Sep, 2008
How I Started:
I had been in a bad accident and broke my L5 vertebra and blew out my bottom 5 discs. After 2 surgeries and four years the doctors recommended another 300,000.+ surgery. I went to the Spine Institute for another opinion. They told me it was essentially inopperable and the best they could offer me was greater doses of narcotics. At this point I was on high doses of oxycontin, methadone, muscle relaxers, nerve drugs, etc. This was pretty devastating for a young guy. I reached my breaking point with all this and I fired every one of the doctors. I took my sorry ass back to the gym and went every day, pain or not. Over the first year I was able to drop 100 lbs and eliminate the back pain, and get off all narcotics. In the process I caught the lifting bug, its my passion now.
Why I Love It:
The appearance benefits are huge, it's nice to go out and have people stop and notice you. Also the discipline, the commitment, doing the things others can't or won't, constantly pushing myself to my limits and surpassing them. Also, its a form of meditation for me, it relieves stress and clears the mind.
How I Stay Motivated:
Many different ways, primarily by checking out others who have done it, and checking out photos of the kind of physique that I'm after. The positive comments from others are also helpful.
BB Accomplishments:
Going from 280 to 175 while putting on 25 lbs of new muscle mass, all in my first year. If I can do it, anyone can.

The first pic is me at my worst, after breaking my back and surgeries and all that. This is a drivers license pic, because I pretty much refused to allow any pics of me. The rest show changes since.
Not as much progress as I would have l liked in 5 weeks, but not bad. Started a new protocol today, so I'll see if I can increase the rate of progress. No my right arm is not smaller..its the angle.
Right now I just want to continue with the holy grail of bodybuilding, dropping body fat and adding muscle. Yes it can be done, I'm successfully accomplishing this right now. By June 1st I want to be 200 lbs at 4% body fat. The feeling of accomplishment when I start the summer ripped will be intense. The confidence you gain when you get ripped carries over into every other area of your life.
