How I Started:
I've always started and stopped hitting the iron over the years with no true goal in mind. Now I have something to yearn for and something to achieve. I have a purpose, and that purpose drives me to succeed.
Why I Love It:
Every workout is a push to become better. Testing my limits and pushing the envelope always leave me with satisfaction.
How I Stay Motivated:
I have a specific major goal with minor goals along the way. I have a plan. The alternative is failure and that is unacceptable.

I want to be fit and ready for BUD/S training before my 28th birthday which is in a little over a year. I believe this is easily attainable.
Goal (Long):
I will focus on and improve all areas of athleticism. Endurance, strength, agility, flexibility and reaction time. Those are all qualities which I see as required by the elites of the U.S. Navy, along with mental strength and endurance.
I will also place harsh demands on my body while avoiding injury and death. I plan on using the coming summer months to train in harsh heat environments and the upcoming winter to train in harsh cold. I am putting aside the harsh training for now only to ensure I have a solid base fitness level.
Weighing a certain amount isn't my goal, however I do want to be as lean as possible. I also will be able to bench 250 and squat 300 by next year. Also by next year I will be able to run a mile in under 6 minutes and be able to sprint a 40 in less than 5 seconds.
Well 4 weeks in after starting on the Rippetoe starting strength guidelines I feel as if I was doing something really wrong, since my workouts lasted no more than 30 minutes (even though I felt a little fatigue, I didn't feel pumped or that I exerted myself as much as I could have.)
Thank you so much. I love it when I hear that people get inspired to lift or do cardio or anything that gets them involved in fitness. You have made my day.
My wife and I know where you are coming from & believe that you can make your fitness dreams come true, probably sooner than you think. My wife (bodyspace name: judimax) went from size 12/14 to 4/6 and I lost over 50 lb’s and went from 36% to 10% bodyfat by following the 12 week Body for Life program. Push yourself, possibly out of your comfort zone and you will be amazed at the results and they will be well worth the effort. Give either of us a yell if you wish
