When I Started:
Dec, 2004
How I Started:
I had gained a bit of weight after college and my life was pretty undisciplined and unhealthy for the most part. I decided to buckle down and start working out. At the time I started working out, working out meant to me running on the treadmill and doing a few crunches. However, I joined a small gym where I used to live in Tyler, Texas, and it totally changed my belief structure and mind set about effective exercise and nutrition. I learned that it was better to eat 6 small meals a day versus the 3 squares I was used to. I learned the difference between complex carbs and simple ones as well as appropriate carb to protein ratios. I learned that lifting weights could totally reshape and re-define my body shape. In short, it totally re-defined the way I look at myself. I have been leading an active lifestyle since.
Why I Love It:
It keeps me strong, motivated, focused, and helps stave off stress and the occasional negativity present in life.
How I Stay Motivated:
I always have a vision of how I can be better and look better. Besides, in my line of work, I have to stay fit to set the best example to follow.

I want to lose fat and tone. I have a lot of muscle, but I need it to come out in definition.
Goal (Long):
My biggest issue is weight fluctuation. I have been working out and dieting long enough to have a pretty clear cut idea of how my body works. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those lucky guys/gals that can eat whatever and stay lean.
My workouts are frequent and intense. I'm strong, I have endurance, and I'm not lacking in Stamina. I run my two miles in 14 minutes in low altitude areas and 15 to 15:30 in high altitude areas like the one I live in now. I can do about 50 push-ups in 1 minute, 30 secs and 80 to 85 situps in 2 minutes (Army Physical Fitness Test). This all amounts to a perfect score of 300 in my age category. I can bench slightly more than my weight (155lbs); I can deadlift 225 lbs; and I can squat about the same.
However, and now comes the big HOWEVER, I am not as toned as I'd like to be. The culprit? My nutrition has been severely lacking for the past few months. My body is very intake-sensitive. The main things that I love that make me gain weight: Beer, Spirits, and High GI starchy carbs. And the area that is immediately affected: my mid-section and my inner thighs. No way around it. I cut these crazy things out, and I start leaning out. I eat these things and I'm done. The love handles start to show and the muffin top becomes more visible.
Ok, so now for the goal. I am maintaining my high-intensity workouts, but I am staying away from heavy lifting. I'm replacing heavy lifting with circuit training with low weight, high rep, high intensity. The circuit training happens 4X a week followed by cardio. I am doing 45 minutes to 1 hour of intense cardio a day (running, stair climbing), and Abs/Core everyday. I'm also spiking my workouts with boot camp style calisthenics 3 to 4 times a week, where I use my own body for resistance to improve my core and overall strength.
I am 150lbs right now at around 28% BF. My plan is to in 6 to 8 months be at 130lbs with 16% BF or less. My short term goal is to reach 140 lbs with BF in the low 20s.
I weighed myself today and weighed in at 152.2; huge set back here, because I have been eating clean and very strict on my diet. Save for my cheat night on Saturday, I've been sticking to a very strict, high protein and low carb diet between 1200 to 1500 cal/day. The last time I weighed in was on...
