When I Started:
Feb, 2009
How I Started:
the idea brewed for a few years, then one day i just decided to try it. I was a long/ultra-distance runner (30-80km range), got burnt out mentally so trying something different to challenge me.
Why I Love It:
I love feeling achy the next day and thinking that it's my body building itself stronger. Love the variety, and being attentive and in tune with my body, and to see what it is capable of.
How I Stay Motivated:
I set lots of mini-goals, spend a lot of time visualising the future and thinking about what I want my future to be like and what I can do to get that future.
I started making some small changes at this stage, but had not made a commitment yet. About 72kg or 156.5lb.
70.5kg/155lb have not lost much weight, a month since the previous photo. But the shape has shifted. Same clothing as previous picture, can see the bottoms are not cutting in.
To use freeweight lifts such as squat and deadlift with good form to enable me to get strong enough to do a pullup. To gain strength, muscle and to lose fat.
Goal (Long):
My goals are;
* to be able to do a pull up by Christmas. I want to be strong!
* to treat my body with the respect it deserves so it runs well for a long time to come. I don't want to grow old with a body that is falling apart, so I need to look after it now.
* to have fun and learn lots of new things while cleaning up the diet and training hard
* Get and keep bodyfat under 20%
Weight Goal:
I want to LOSE 11 kg
Bodyfat Goal:
19%

Friday afternoon I tried out a gym across the road from my work. I also found out the same day that I am being moved to a new building soon, maybe as early as next week; so this gym won't be across the road for much longer, but still it won't be far from my new workplace, and will probably be...

Thanks for the comment re my progress pics! I just checked out yours and you are doing fantasticaly as well, if the scales are not moving for you then you are definitly building muscle because your composition has changed alot!
Also just read your goal about the pullup(s) - fantastic goal to have, Begining of this year I couldnt do 1, last workout I did 8 in one set... I'll see if I can dig out some links about "learning" the art...
Whats your 'geek' speciality? mines computers.......
we never really made an effort till we reached 45. after the kids left the house it gave us something to do together and now we're addicted and always striving to look better. thank you for the compliment but you look really fit now so just keep it going!!
absolutely! we were astounded by what that guy wrote and your response was eloquent. we've also had some very nasty comments sent our way too - guess that's the risk we all take on here. You stick with it - you're looking great!!!! diane
