When I Started:
How I Started:
Got started at 16 years, in high school. Worked out with a boyfriend at the time. Stopped till I was 23, then worked out on and off till 2005. At that point I was determined to compete in a figure competition and hired a trainer who worked wonders with my diet and my body. 10 weeks prior to the competition I suffered a severe head injury which kept me off of work for 11 months, and left me with very limited workouts. That was back in January 2007, and since then things have just gone downhill for me, workout and diet wise. Since that time I have gained 30 pounds of pure fat, and gained at least 10-15% bodyfat.
Why I Love It:
working out is my private time away from concerns of home and work. Just me and my body. Its the one time that its okay to admit that "its all about me", if only for an hour or two.
Having been almost competition ready at one point, I know how good it feels and looks, and I want to have that feeling again.
No goal of competing at a specific date, but have not entirely ruled that out for 2010.
How I Stay Motivated:
Motivation has actually been a bit of an issue for me in the past year or two. A major injury, and the birth of a grandson who has become my adopted son, have conspired to redirect my focus from working out to caring for my little one. Add to that the life of a single parent, and a lousy financial situation (of my own doing), and I've had no motivation for working out, and have been staying close to home and work a lot, and eating much more than I should be.
And I'm wondering why it is that when I was prepping for a competition, I was so focused on my diet that I NEVER cheated! NEVER! I smelled the cookies and stuff my older kids dared bring into the house, but never ate them. I was so disciplined. Now I just can't seem to pass up any sort of treat. HELP.
BB Accomplishments:
Forum Signature:
The focus for January 2009 is to get my diet back to where it should be and to resume working out. I've had enough of the crappy diet and making excuses for not working out. As of now, I've stopped gaining weight. That's a step in the right direction.

Why? What are the pros and cons of working out there?
Home and various gyms. Pros of working out at home, I don't need to leave the house and I can workout while baby is sleeping.
Cons of working out at home, I've got no cardio equipment and a limited variety of weights.
Pros of working out at a gym: the variety of equipment available.
Cons of working out in a gym: It takes a lot of arranging to get the baby either to the gym, or with a baby sitter.Home and various gyms. Pros of working out at home, I don't need to leave the house and I can workout while baby is sleeping.

Do you track your workouts (exercises, weight, reps, etc.)?
Yes
If so, how do you do it? Workout log, software program, etc.? Why do you do it this way?
Paper and pen, and more recently, bodyspace workout tracker.
Apparently I'm having trouble with consistency, and with diet. Therefore, I'm having trouble losing the BF% that I would so badly like to lose. So I'm trying something new based on the principle that continuing to try the same method over and over again, and hoping for different results, ...
As a fellow Canadian I just wanted to say that you are an amazing lady and I wish you success as you work towards your fitness goal. TY for the add. I too recently have had trouble turning down potato chips and such. I have made up my mind to refocus and stay clean. I want to do a show next year also. Maybe we can help each other stay the course! good luck
you are right. grass will always look greener on the other side.its funny we are quick to advice others, but when it comes to telling outselves, we look to others.
Well i'm losing weight but not a lot of change in the bodyfat% department. But we got plenty of time. If i can suggest a few good vids from beach body...let me know.
