Overall Goal: Managing to balance bicycling and working. Have to get weight training back in the picture as well; the bike is making me feel fantastic, but cycling doesn't hit every muscle group. Gotta lift, too.

Just rode El Tour de Tucson and I'm getting FAT!

When I Started:
Aug, 1976
How I Started:
My dad bought me my first weight set and taught me my first exercises. I started buying magazines and studying them. And I'm still at it today.
Why I Love It:
I call it 'sweat meditation' - It makes my body feel good and it calms me. It feels better to be fit than not. It makes me feel good about myself. It makes everything else in my life work just a little more smoothly.
How I Stay Motivated:
I look at unfit people and swear I will never be one. Then I look at photos of myself and realize I look unfit; This Won't Do. I know how it feels not to work out. I know how I want to be perceived by others. I look in the mirror; if I like what I see I want to maintain it. If I don't like what I see then it's got to get fixed. Right now - It Need's Fixin'.
BB Accomplishments:
Lately a couple of my female friends have given me a hug and then said, "Ooo - You've been working out!" Then they get a gleam in their eye and hug me some more. When my female friends start saying, "Ooo - You've been working out!" as soon as they lay eyes on me, then I'll feel like I'm getting somewhere.

Goal (Long):
So here's the deal: I'm aging and my body has changed in ways I do not approve. My bodyfat percentage and distribution have gotten out of control. I have become soft, and weak, and pasty from sitting indoors at a computer. I refuse to be a fat guy with a gut like so many others my age, but for awhile there it got harder to fight it than it used to be. I am on a good regimen now, though, and making it better all the time by regularly experimenting with my nutrition, and obsessively reading the articles and profiles at BB.com. Keeping an open mind and staying out of my own way. I am also stepping up the weight training and getting in some bicycling - just started up again in July 2009 after having surgery and moving to Tucson. Restarting my whole life and getting in great shape is part of The Plan. So the fitness plan is to eat well, to work as much and as hard as possible while allowing time to rest and rebuild, and keep setting - and resetting - goals and challenges for myself. I am in process Right Now of stepping up the pace; let's get this thing done for real now. Because I'm not even close to dead yet.
He is proof that I can still improve. I'm 50 and he's 55. Nobody can use age as an excuse with this guy lookin' at ya. Not even me. I can do Better, and he's a reminder of that.
Clive is an inch taller and a year younger than me. Really helps me to visualize what I can do with my own build and frame. Clive looks kickass and when I look at his pics, I know I can do this, too!
What type of nutrition plan are you currently following? Give full details.
I recently put myself through a liquid cutting diet that really messed me up. What I learned above all else is to keep my diet simple, basic, clean and balanced so I won't have down times and recovery times like I am having now. I am losing over a week of valuable workout time, plus the little progress I made over the past month, all because I got in a hurry to burn off more bodyfat. I was already burning fat slowly and steadily. I need to get back to that pace and be happy with it.I recently put myself through a liquid cutting diet that really messed me up. How has bodybuilding and fitness helped and/or changed your family life?
I don't miss not having a family; I am my family, and I create my own extended family. Family we're born with is often not good for us. Family we create to support and nurture us, and give back to, is all that matters.I don't miss not having a family; I am my family, and I create my own extended family. How has bodybuilding and fitness helped you in your career?
It gives me confidence and a won't-quit, won't-take-crap attitude. I feel equal to, or better than, everybody - including my bosses. So it has not helped me stay in bland, purposeless positions or jobs I hate. It has helped me move up when I need to move, and ultimately helped me to move out and work for myself. It gives me confidence and a won't-quit, won't-take-crap attitude. Lately I am experiencing a whole new approach to getting fit. I am having to suspend my disbelief and follow a path that I never would have before, because I believe it is the only way for me to progress in the long run. But it's really twisting me.

GOOD LUCK with the gym shopping! Yes, most all of the little "IRON" shops have folded due to bad economy. It's happening everywhere. Only the big Conglomorates who can appeal to "ALL" & slash prices are surviving. LIFT STRONG & BE BLESSED TODAY, DAVE.
