Starting over with a couple of Bodybuilding.com training programs as a guide. Nutrition is Priority One this time. I usually focus on training because i enjoy that part most, but I realize that what I eat - and what I avoid eating - is probably more important, especially at my age.

Canned the 6-Week Cure for the Middle Aged Middle after 5 days, mainly because I have been sick with sinusitis for probably the 5th time this winter and I had to take medication for it, which is strictly forbidden in The Cure diet. The diet did for me what it really should have, however, in snapping me back to a realistic viewpoint regarding food and nutrition. Day 3 of the Eades' 6 Week Cure for the Middle Aged Middle.  So far I feel fine, if a little hungry. Just missing my snacks mostly, I really don't feel at all underfed. My energy is fine. Not getting sick from all the protein and supplements like I thought I might. Actually feeling pretty good - I feel better than I did before I started, so that's a good sign.  Too soon to see any results. Into February now and I'm still a fat bastard. But I'm not giving up. About a week ago I finally stopped drinking coffee after an athletic young coworker advised me that it was really unhealthy and probably was causing my acid reflux and a lot of other problems. Doing research on nutrition for acid reflux, GERD, etc. is utterly frustrating. Each article I read seems to contradict the last. I now have lists of foods that some say are good to eat while others say to avoid. After all is said and done I still have to simply decide for myself.  Today, while recovering from being sick for yet another weekend, I am feeling myself out to see what my pummeled guts are willing to consider working with. outthedoor Just realized I'm responding on your blog, but can't figure out how to enable messages. Anyway, thanks. I shouldn't be typing much anyway. I made arrangements with my doc to try some physical therapy. I think it will help me bio-mechanically to avoid further injury, and also, maybe they can tell me some exercises I can do -- not for the disc area, but for other parts of my body -- so that this doesn't become one long drawn-out excuse for doing nothing for months. outthedoor continued from prev comment: You're not supposed to skip a dose, but I did skip just one, and it became very apparent that the pain was being masked. The problem and the pain had NOT gone away. So, I managed to get myself an MRI scheduled (had it today) and will try to get some good chiropractic care to help me heal. I hear that decompression therapy is good for herniated discs. I don't really know that much. Anticipate learning more in the upcoming week. Feb 23, 2013 11:27pm

outthedoor Thanks for your comments and friendship. Sometimes a herniated disc can require surgery. Many unfortunate folks have jumped the gun on that, however. Studies show that many herniated discs eventually resolve on their own. The pain tho', was grimace-worthy and I was forced to accept a 5 day supply of prednisone -- miraculous for taking away the pain (lowering the inflammation), but it can contribute to osteoporosis, diabetes, suppressed immunity & weight gain! -to be continued...
