Overall Goal: My goal is to finally trim down and bulk up in a way that I haven't done so far. For the short term, I want to get down to 15% body fat and 180 points by the end of March, 2009.

I was an extremely overweight kid. At my biggest, I was 235 lbs. with a 42" waist. I had never been taught nutrition, and I hated sports as a kid. My freshman year of high school, I dropped about 30 lbs., and I went on Weight Watchers the year after that and dropped another 40. But I wasn't exercising or lifting, so my body never toned up. In fact, I was rather scrawny until it came to my mid-section, which never seemed to let go of the extra fat, even at my skinniest.
In college, I slowly crept back up to just over 200 lbs. I had gotten taller, so it didn't look so bad, but I was never happy about it. Because of my time on Weight Watchers, I knew how to lose weight easily, but I was still completely ignorant of what working out looked like.
That takes me up to the present. We're expecting our first child in September, and I really want to be in great shape for him/her, as well as for myself. I want to be able to be active with him without getting winded. And yes, I want to be able to take my shirt off at the beach and feel good about it. But most of all, I want to increase my discipline in both eating and fitness. It's a responsibility issue, and I want to set a responsible example for my child.
Why I Love It:
Working out does not come naturally to me. I have often lacked the mental discipline that it takes to make it through a hard circuit or run. But this time is different. I love to learn, so I've approached this transformation as a learner. And it's the thrill of physically growing through the application of what I learn that makes me love the challenge that each day presents.
How I Stay Motivated:
Some days are easy to be motivated. You know, the days that you feel like you're seeing a change. But many others aren't so wonderful. I've even found that while I may start a day encouraged, I will actually end up needing motivation to keep pushing during and after the work-outs. For that encouragement, I visit this bodybuilding.com and read how others have done it before me. I read about anything and everthing related to my workouts, even though I won't necessarily change anything (consistency is key...there are a million ways to do things; find a way and stick with it). I also remind myself of the progress I've made and of the reasons that I'm doing this. It's bigger than me. And that's what makes it worth it.
My goal is to finally trim down and bulk up in a way that I haven't done so far. For the short term, I want to get down to 15% body fat and 180 points by the end of March, 2009.
Goal (Long):
My Long-Term Goals:
1) To be consistent in both diet and exercise.
2) To reach 8% bodyfat.
3) To be able to run (not run/walk) a 10K.
4) To gain lean muscle that I've never had before.
5) To not bulk up enough to be a hardcore builder, but just enough to look good and fulfill the above goals.
Time-Frame: I'm in this for the long haul. I don't know how long it will take. My immediate goal is to be consistent for 75 days (ending March 31). In that time, I am aiming to get down to 15% bodyfat from the 18-19% that I started with. I'll set another goal after that. Thanks for your support.
This weeks marks my fourth week of training. It is this week that I feel like I am starting to see some visible changes, albeit small. But every victory is a victory. I've been eating clean and sticking to my training plan for a whole month now, and that is very encouraging. I'm up to...
Hi bgee i was same like you at the time when I was kid I don't like sports because all my mates was times better than me(I was stupid enough to think that they've got something more than me to be good enough at sports)Now you are going to be a father and you have a great responsability to be a good example for your kid,you have to be really motivated and to work hard for your personal well being.Keep Going you've got nice progress but still have to build a lot of muscles.
Welcome to bodyspace. You look like you have a good starting point. It's cool to see others here who start with as little as I did. it just means you have more room for improvement. I might start up an accountability Bodygroup to help people like us stay on track daily. I will send an invite if I do.
