Overall Goal: I'd love to keep up with both my studies and health goals. Looking to trim down a few more body fat percentage points in order to tone my abs. Also would like to increase endurance through running - goal of 5K in 25 minutes!
Fit Status:
did 3.1 miles today.. getting back in the groove!
During my Master's program, I spent a lot of time sitting, studying, and eating! Though I was never overweight, I became the epitome of "skinny fat" -- I looked fine normally, but I was not in shape by any means. After looking at progress pictures on this site, I was motivated into going to the weight room! I've been lifting for almost a year now and I love it.
Why I Love It:
I never thought I would go into the weight room, but now I love lifting! There is something empowering and addictive about being able to lift more and more weight -- I love pushing myself both mentally and physically.
How I Stay Motivated:
I feel that as a future physician, I should take care of not only my patients but myself! Also strange as it sounds, seeing the amount of adipose tissue in my anatomy group's cadaver has really motivated me to hit the gym and eat clean. Dead or alive, I don't want three inches of fat under my skin..
BB Accomplishments:
When I first started, I couldn't lift myself even an inch from a hanging position on the pull-up bar. Now I do four sets of 5 pull-ups three times a week! In addition, I couldn't even finish a mile without having to stop and walk several times. Now I can finish a 5K (3.1 miles). One step closer to doing a marathon!
No matter my fitness accomplishments, my biggest accomplishment OVERALL was getting myself into the weight room to begin with.. that itself was by far the most challenging obstacle. Now I am a regular there!

Taken a year ago. I still wasn't a hardcore gym-goer, but my undergrad lifestyle was definitely more active than my life as a graduate student. It definitely shows!
Coming full circle.. I took my first progress pictures at my parents' house after discovering BB.com. Here I am again, a year later!

Hey chica :) I hope you're enjoying your break from med school. I haven't been invited for any interviews yet, but I'm still hoping and praying. Happy New Year! BTW- your abs are looking really, really good- I can see those cuts!!!!
Thx L. I had a great workout this morning to close out 2009. See my blog for a very funny short clip on how NOT to workout. Your abs look tighter in the avi. Nice going. HNY!
Yep, that would be ME. Turned 48 last week. And no, I didn't get a lap blanket, a rocking chair, or a Mister Rogers sweater. Good thing I didn't have to blow out 48 candles. THAT would have tested how my cardio workouts have been lately. :-)
nice! I tried skiing once but I'm not good with heights LOL. Hmm over vacation I'll be doing a lot of babysitting! I got a core ball for xmas which I'm in love with..have fun snowboarding!!

My workouts are doing great..just limited on time to work out at the moment. Maybe I can get my wife to take some up to date progress pics this weekend?
Hi there! Didn't really hit the weights too much during Med school, but I did run a lot, and did lots of push-ups, sit-ups, body weight squats, etc... Started lifting a bit more during residency....really needed the stress relief at that time!
