How I Started:
I began working out as an 8th grader. I have always been an athlete, with a passion for football. In 8th grade my shop teacher was also the head coach of the high school football team. After school he would travel to the high school and oversee the after school weight training for his team. He invited me to go with him about midway through the school year and I went with him every day thereafter. I trained hard throughout the next 4 years of highschool and continued into about 2 years of college.
Why I Love It:
Working out is one of many ways that I am able to releive stress, there is nothing like blowing off steam with exercise. As I grow older there are fewer and fewer ways to compete as I had grown so accustomed to with football as a younger man. Working out gives me the opportunity to set goals and compete with myself every day to try to reach my goals and set personal records.
How I Stay Motivated:
In the past I was easilly motivated by sports. My love for football and competition required me to be as strong and fit as possible. When football went away I have had a more difficult time with motivation, however now that I have a baby boy, I have a newfound motivation to be a good father and role model (I hope that staying in shape myself will help to motivate him to be the best he can be as well).

I was just looking at the calendar and realizing I'm only 13 wks away from a WHOLE NEW LIFE! My son Cade is due on May 11th and I can't wait! I have felt like a lump on a log for quite some time now... but it took the upcoming birth of my son to kick me into gear for my new body and my...
PM me your email again and I'll send you the green tea newsletter. I have your email entered but id have to sift through and check them all b/c I don't have your name on it. I've got about 500 of them and I'm being lazy
Yes! I did the stair climber, which I had never done before... it was HARD! But that's what I needed... to get off the treadmill for a change. AND I did my weight training routine, but mixed it up. Thanks for the advice!
gotcha, a lot of cool people on here. i do about 30min cardio after lifting, about 15 of that is a 20/40second split- high intensity for 20sec, moderate for 40sec. my cardio days are 30-50min cardio with some intervals thrown in, some 20/40, some longer intervals. Not really a set cardio routine, I go by how I'm feeling and how much I can push that day.
nice ben, I like to mix em up, but prefer dumbells for greater range of motion on most exercises. I recently switched my workouts a bit, doing reps of 15/8/6/20 then some cardio intervals for bout 30min. I'm getting my butt whooped! Haha...what'ya mean I'm popular?
You're funny. Just POST THEM! It will motivate you and you're gonna see major results. As far as having a son goes, I love your attitude about wanting to be a good role model for him... he'll pick up on that from a young age!! And before you know it, he'll be at the gym with you. My 11 year old can't wait to go with me!
Thanks... I feel like my progress has been so slow so I appreciate the feedback. It's scary to post pictures but it does motivate me. YOU need to post more pics as well!! How old is your son?
Hi Ben - I only know what I learn from others, but I have written blogs that show how & what I eat. I also did videos on my different tips that Ive learned over the years. Then if you have any questions, Im around :)
so what i hear about waxy maize is that its pretty much made from corn and that it gets absorbed through your stomach as opposed to your small intestine. i dont know how i feel about that... lol. need to look more into it till i pay for just sugar.
Hey Ben, great to see you getting started. Its amazing how the kids really give us a lot of motivation. I too am trying to do the same. I just wished I had started much earlier as you are doing. I don't want to be the fat dad at the pool/beach lol. And I want to be able to play with and enjoy doing the things my children want to do and be able to keep up with them. Good luck man, you've got a great base to start on. Watch out summer! Here come the ABS!!
