Right now, I'm following the 12-week hypertrophy routine from "Men's Health Power Training" by Coach Robert dos Remedios.

Coach dos emphasizes compound, multijoint exercises that replace less-effective isolation exercises. He also focuses on Olympic-style lifts geared toward people of all experience levels.

doctordude I was a rock climber, and could perform a pullup with 100lbs of plates in a backpack, so I thought my hands were already strong, but pullups don't prepare you well for holding more than three plates. For lower back, doing deadlifts from a deficit are quite effective. Nov 15, 2011 8:43pm

doctordude My deadlift skyrocketed when I started to work on hand strength. Try doing short range of motion rack pulls. It'll allow you to use lots of weight to strengthen you hands, so that when you go back to deadlifts, the bar will feel lighter. Nov 15, 2011 2:32pm
