Trained for the first very time at age 35. In 8 months, I went from 220lb, 22% BF to 190lb, 11% BF using a periodization routine. I had never been athletic so it was a really big deal for me!!!
Medical problems, medications and injuries are limiting factors presently. However, since 2004, I have gone from 260lb down to 215lb and kept the weight off despite interruptions to training due to injuries.
Shoulder surgery coming in Nov '07. SLAP repair.

Since the training has been screwed up for so long, I consider these my "before" pics. Hopefully I'll be able to resume cardio in a couple of weeks after being off with the knee injury since mid-May. I'm also hoping to resume full arm workouts and benching soon as well.
I've been getting comments lately on how big I look even though the shoulder problem keeps me from working my upper body well. Since I was forced to switch to the Life Fitness Pec Flye Machine, my pecs have really been growing! I'm getting this crazy vascularity in my arms too. No idea...
Hi
The programme I followed was simply a calorie deficit of about 500-750 per day and with about a 70/30 mix in terms of protein and fat. Had a carb up 1x every two weeks
Cardio was at least 1 hr per day. W/Outs were 3x/week and with a chest/arm - back/shoulder and leg split. Also did 2x/week of abs. Supped with creatine and a fat burner. 12 weeks made a hugggggggeeeeeeee change.
These exercies will get your back wide and thick. Wide grip chinups, bent over rows, partial deadlifts. If you just did those exercises and nothing else, your back would look good. I do them and have added high close grip cable rows.
yes, I was concerned about muscle loss but I realized you can only do one(gain) or the other(lose)and you can do both at the same time, so my choice was to reach a certain weight (155 lbs) then start protein (plant, powered then animal) and grad. begin to increase protein at every meal and the number of meals a day(5)with my metabolism working faster and greater amounts of protein in the diet I could gradually add muscle .
yes,I went on a fruit and veggie only diet for nine months....hardest thing I ever did in my life and lost all the weight ,went down to 153 with no muscle., then started adding plant protein then animal and powered protein to gain muscle back(the little I lost and add some more) in the nine months the added benefit from the veggie diet was I didn't need any medications..today I take only one medication
How's things been going for you? Nothing much new out here. I'm still trying to cut some fat, and have been doing quite a bit of ab work. Anyhow, take it easy, and have a great day.
Good to hear from you. Hope you've gotten the health issues all taken care of. Training has been great, but the progress is slow. I'm kind of at the point where I'm lifting because I enjoy it, and will continue to try to improve myself, but I'm basically satisfied with my body the way it is,and with the exception of loosing a few extra pounds around my waist, any more muscle I put on from here on will just be a bonus.
Hope things continue to go well for you, and have a great day.
Hi Randall,
Good to hear from you. Thanks for the encouragement. I am looking forward to some warmer weather to go out and do some exercising outside. It's been a long cold one up here. I'll be waiting for your 50th.
Take care,
John
I was just checking out a few of your body blogs, it sounds like you've had some real obstacles to overcome. Are you out of commission now until you get the bronchitis thing straightened out? Hang in there. Hope you have a great day.
not really supplements, its just knowing how my body worked before all my time off from the gym, if somthing stops working i change it.. diet is the largest key, i am consuming a large ammount of calories and my diets very clean
