When I Started:
Jun, 2006
How I Started:
I have always lifted but only to maintain myself. I wanted more and either had to do something about it or stop bitching. Started lifting heavy at 46 and gained 45 pounds in 6 months. I was tired of looking thin and skinny and noticed I got more attention when I got bigger and more defined.
Why I Love It:
Love the pumps, the feel, the growth and the challenge. At 48 many guys would say it is too late to gain muscle and change your physique. It's never too late to change anything about yourself.
How I Stay Motivated:
Would be better with a knowledgeable and motivated workout partner but otherwise not too hard. I look at myself in the mirror and see what I want changed and tell myself that I need to do something about it or shut up and accept what I don't like. Accepting what I don't like is not an option. Lately after getting larger and bulking up, I leaned out some. I like that my hard work is noticed by gym friends. That's motivating.
BB Accomplishments:
Gained 45 pounds. Increased all body parts 15-18%.

Taregchanged Weight from 233 lbs. to 232 lbs., a 1 lb. loss in 175 days
This was taken before I started lifting seriously and heavy. I was about 185 lbs. Skinny. I actually thought I looked good.
Latest photo... need to lean down still and continue building. Does one ever feel like they are progressing? Better than before but a long way to go! A long way!
I had always wanted to be a muscular guy and although I worked out and kept in shape I didn't grow. I decided that I had enough of my wishing for it and bitching about not having the body I wanted that I changed my attitude and said it is now or never. I went from 180 pounds when I was 42 to 230 pounds at age 47. I want to grow bigger, bigger and stronger. I like big and bulky since I had always been lean and thin. I always wanted to get to the 300 club and can now bench 325. I want to reach the 400 club now and want another 10-15% at least of muscle size all around within the next 6 - 8 months.
What mistakes did you make when you first started working out?
Try to lift more than I could to not look weak. I paid attention to what others might think instead of what I really needed to do.

What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Pay attention to what your body is telling you. Don't go into the gym thinking you can bench 300 immediately. Note the weight, sets and reps and progress.
I have been showing lots of improvement over the past month. I am not very photogenic (never have been) so most of the progress pictures I have taken or a friend has taken of me are not good and I want to emphasize my success, not how bad the photo is :) So I'm working on best lighting and...
Thanx bud, it's good to have guys like you watching me closely. It keeps me on track this side - lol! Great weather this side and just had a good chest and ab workout. Have a GREAT day! G.
