Some dumb chick in college told me I was too skinny to have a serious relationship with... I fooled her because that wasn't exactly my interest in her at that time! But that pissed me off, so much in fact, I immediately joined a local gym. Not just any gym a powerlifting gym.
Why I Love It:
I let go of all my stress when I lift. Many lives have been saved because of this and the other reason is...
"It's as satisfying to me as, uh, cuming is, you know? As, ah, having sex with a woman and cuming. And so can you believe how much I am in heaven? I am like, uh, getting the feeling of cuming in a gym, I'm getting the feeling of cuming at home, I'm getting the feeling of cuming backstage when I pump up, when I pose in front of 5,000 people, I get the same feeling, so I am cuming day and night. I mean, it's terrific. Right? So you know, I am in heaven.' " -Arnold Schwarzenegger; Pumping Iron
How I Stay Motivated:
The mirror. Damn I look good! Seriously... I receive alot of very nice compliments about my physique. I also realize that I motivate a large number of people to reach their fitness goal which is in and of itself... pretty cool. It's amazing what you can do to and with your body... I'm completely facinated by it, really.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius"... Always!
BB Accomplishments:
I've competed in 11 bodybuilding shows since I turned 42... my best placing to date has been a second place. As a matter of fact I have several 2nd place awards. I've also placed in the top 5 of the Emerald Cup in Bellevue, WA. However some of the young fellas at the gym talked me into competing at a powerlifting event a couple years ago and I took first place in 2 master's categories (over 40 to 49). I also won best deadlift for all masters men in all weight classes with a 505 lb pull. Yes that's 3 first place awards in one afternoon. That was a fun day!
Forum Signature:
It takes just one hour in the gym... but it's the other twenty-three hours in the kitchen that really count. If you don't experience some discomfort or pain from your diet... you're probably not doin' it right!

What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Everything works... nothing works forever. Adaptation is the name of the game... mix it up. This race is won by the tortise not the hare. Show up and lift and it will happen... be inconsistant and it won't. It's not rocket science, it's preseverance/discipline.Everything works... nothing works forever.
