When I Started:
Apr, 1998
How I Started:
i was very unhealthy... well... anorexic in high school. when i recovered, my time at the gym, and the people i met there were far more help to me than any therapist or family councelor. i learned a lot, made changes, and i've been addicted every since.
Why I Love It:
i'm absolutely fascinated by the human body and how we can manipulate it in a relatively short period of time. to me, it's live art.
How I Stay Motivated:
even the day to day accomplishments are so exciting. i mean from "another hour of cardio down!" to "added five pounds to my extensions!" or the ever famouse, "i survived this day without chocolate!" the daily successes are what makes the long term gains.
the gym is like a second home to me. i am more at ease there than pretty much anywhere else. it's like this: if i let my diet slip away, i've gotta face these people (accountability is good) but at the same time, most people are too concerned with themselves to notice someone else, so i also don't walk around trying to hide my head in shame... i do work very hard, but i am human...
BB Accomplishments:
third place in my first competition. this may sound silly but first and second place looked very good. i was proud to be on the same stage as these girls. i asked judges for tips for the future... perhaps with age and a little muscle maturity, i will do as they said and go back one day to clean up! (or at least i can keep it in my head as motivation!) my second two competitions i placed very well for the number of girls there, but i was pretty disapointed in myself. the competition place is irrelevent if the girls you compete against don't look that good. if they looked amazing and i got third place, then i'm proud... but it does tell me there's still work to be done.

it was the final week of my first competition that i understood the meaning of "meat head"!

Where do you mainly workout?
Gym
Why? What are the pros and cons of working out there?
at home, the kitchen is near by. sometimes i feel like i'm slacking because i may be a little hungry and i'll actually get off the elptical and go eat!!! if i am at the gym i am there and have the time blocked out to do it so i figure make the best of it and have no excuses. at home i am easily distracted.at home, the kitchen is near by. sometimes i feel like i'm slacking because i may be a little hungry and i'll actually get off the elptical and go eat!!! if i am at the gym i am there and have the ti...more

What should look for in a gym? What should you avoid?
i look for a place that i am comfortable and motivated by. if it is too dingy, i may not be motivated by it. if it is too flashy i may be overwhelmed and feel insecure. too dark and i'm tired. too bright and i may not be in the mood to deal with it... i find most are the same at 5am though! i personlly do enjoy the les mills classes so i am happy if a gym has them, but other than that am not a class lover, so unless it's les mills i could do without. i am not a swimmer so i don't care about a pool. i like long hours (preferably 24 hours.. never know when you'll need it!) and close enough to get to in bad weather!i look for a place that i am comfortable and motivated by. if it is too dingy, i may not be motivated by it. if it is too flashy i may be overwhelmed and feel insecure. too dark and i'm tired. too...more
so i go to nutritiondata.com and put in my info. says my maintenance is about 1900-2100 (depending on exercise options... i always put a few to see where it averages out to so that i know what to eat on longer workout days vs. easier days...) this means diet calories for me are like 1400-...
every few weeks i try a different split or plan, but i always end up comming back to this. (or something VERY close to this)
MONDAY: chest, triceps, shoulders; 20 minutes hiit, 40 minutes miss cardio
TUESDAY: lower body; 60 minutes miss cardio (yoga if i have time but mostly just when i feel...
Hey girl! Well I wasnt as good as you! I had turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, bread...you name it, I had it...oh and strawberry cheesecake....brownies and cant forget the whip cream...oh and mama pumpkin roll....WOO....I had serious damage control to fix! Lol....
I'm feeling so much better! I never get sick, so it hit me hard but all better now! My weekend was fun, but I definitely ate WAY too much food :( Congrats on the binge-free weeks!!!! I have been struggling lately, not always a binge but just eating crap..so I'm starting fresh today and trying to make it through December!
I'm so glad to hear you had a great holiday! and without over-eating :) that's great!! It was great to have everyone together, but we spent it all sick with the h1n1 :( I think were about over it, I hope! Can't wait to get back to training. I've lost so much of the muscle I worked so hard on. I hope you have a great week!
Wow, it is really nice to know you are finding a balance that is making a difference in your life. You have an amazing physique that most people struggle to achieve half of! So the best you today is an inspiration to many. Keep on striving to be the best you at whatever priority comes up, and every day you will find a new best you!
Hey girl! Whats going on?? Are you all readyu for the holiday ;-) I've been sick, so my training has sucked and I've been slackin on the diet..and thanksgiving isnt exactly the time to get it back LOL!!!
Well, I'm going to make sure that I just eat portion sizes for Thanksgiving. I've not really been feeling that well the past few days. Sounds like you have been very disciplined! Keep up the great work! My weekend was good. Took my nephew to ride a train they had made up like the Polar Express. It was pretty fun!
