i was very unhealthy... well... anorexic in high school. when i recovered, my time at the gym, and the people i met there were far more help to me than any therapist or family councelor. i learned a lot, made changes, and i've been addicted every since.
Why I Love It:
i'm absolutely fascinated by the human body and how we can manipulate it in a relatively short period of time. to me, it's live art.
How I Stay Motivated:
even the day to day accomplishments are so exciting. i mean from "another hour of cardio down!" to "added five pounds to my extensions!" or the ever famouse, "i survived this day without chocolate!" the daily successes are what makes the long term gains.
the gym is like a second home to me. i am more at ease there than pretty much anywhere else. it's like this: if i let my diet slip away, i've gotta face these people (accountability is good) but at the same time, most people are too concerned with themselves to notice someone else, so i also don't walk around trying to hide my head in shame... i do work very hard, but i am human...
BB Accomplishments:
third place in my first competition. this may sound silly but first and second place looked very good. i was proud to be on the same stage as these girls. i asked judges for tips for the future... perhaps with age and a little muscle maturity, i will do as they said and go back one day to clean up! (or at least i can keep it in my head as motivation!) my second two competitions i placed very well for the number of girls there, but i was pretty disapointed in myself. the competition place is irrelevent if the girls you compete against don't look that good. if they looked amazing and i got third place, then i'm proud... but it does tell me there's still work to be done.
Forum Signature:
it was the final week of my first competition that i understood the meaning of "meat head"!

it's not as big as i thought! as jeremy says when he's intoxicated and drops his drawers: "sorry guys, that's all i got!"
i hate posting this.
it's just a starting point.
12 weeks out.
now that i'm pregnant... i don't know if the drive to compete will return after i have my baby. but for now i am focused on having a healthy pregnancy and staying as fit as i can throughout my second and third trimester. i want to set a good example for my new family. i want to feel good as a mother and have enough energy to be able to care for my baby and husband.
to maintain as much of my stamina and progress to this point, and then regain what is inevitably lost through pregnancy.
How long do you rest between sets on average? Why?
45 seconds. long enough to recoupe not long enough to enough to slow down heart rate by TOO much, and keeps the workout cruising at a good pace so i'm not there ALL DAY!

How many reps per set do you usually do? Why?
i have seen that higher reps do decrease size/lower reps will hold more size. i know that changing it up will hypetrophy muscles, but if i stick to 15ish for lower body and 12ish for upper body i'm usually more pleased with the look i get. i have seen that higher reps do decrease size/lower reps will hold more size. i know that changing it up will hypetrophy muscles, but if i stick to 15ish for lower body and 12ish for upper body i'm u...more

What is your favorite cardiovascular exercise? Why?
eliptical. it doesn't make my joints hurt and i enjoy how i feel as opposed to the (bad) pain i get from running.
so i definately measured myself for the first time since i found out i was pregnant... and it looks as though i'm pregnant alright... but why does my body think i'm carrying my baby in my inner thighs!!!! ahhhh!!! i keep telling myself it's okay it's okay it's okay i know how to lose weight...
damage control...lol. i wouldn't call yourself fat!!! although, i do it to myself, & i've gained 4 pounds...lol. i'm only 10lbs & 6wks behind you...just wait...i'll catch up...lol. :-) i'm trying to be really healthy, & the hard part is knowing i will gain some weight no matter what i do!!!! ughhh..queasiness all day & night subsided a couple of weeks ago, but i have a flippin' VIRUS now!! NOT COOL!! lol :-)
when it's time to find out, ABSOLUTELY!!! Wow...you stay up until 10?? lol. I'm pushing REALLY hard to make it to 8:30. Well, I'm excited for you!! Do you plan on finding out what it is??
I'm doing great!! Yep, I'm starting week 12 today, so I'm almost there. I don't know if I already told you this, but that's why they wanted me to take it SUPER easy my first trimester, because the same thing happened to me last July. Plus, I have some other complications, but things are looking great!! I'm starting to feel normal again instead of sick all the time..lol. HOW ARE YOU?!?!
awww health issues? :( That's no fun, I have Crohn's disease, so I know health issues are a pain. I'm doing well though, my training has been awesome lately. I'm excited about this upcoming competition. Hope you get to feeling better.
thanks for the encouragement! its very scary, but at the same time super exciting. i've had a lot of confidence/self esteem issues, so no matter where i place just competing will be a huge accomplishment for me :) as for the bloating, i make sure to drink a well over 1 gal of water, i take digestive enzymes and of course watch those damn carbs! i keep my carbs low anyway, but i never eat a large amount at any meal...if i do, big time bloating :(
