When I Started:
Jul, 2006
How I Started:
I have worked out for many years, but decided it was time to get serious with my program. I wanted to set goals that would help me to gain lean mass in hopes to compete and do well in a bodybuilding competition someday. My father passed away in August of 2004 from heart disease, so I have dedicated my work in bodybuilding to him. I have a long ways to go as this is my second year training for this goal.
Why I Love It:
I love bodybuilding because it is like a form of art. Some people spend their time playing games, going out to the bars, and I like to relieve stress and improve my body. Understanding bodybuilding is very complex and I enjoy the challange.
How I Stay Motivated:
I think of my father, and think of all the things his values have taught me throughout my lifetime. I want to accomplish something that would have made him very proud. I use short term goals to measure my positive success, which in turn increases my motivation. I currently am in the middle of a deployment in Iraq, and am using it as a chance to clean up my diet. Things are going well to this point. My strength is coming along fine, and I am putting on more size. The scale is reading the same, so I must be loosing some bodyfat.
BB Accomplishments:
None. I have not competed in any events to this day. This is my second year training for bodybuilding. I am currently deployed overseas, and have had alot of time to focus on diet and good training splits. My original goal was to bring my weight up from 215 to around 230, but i was still carrying way to much bodyfat. I have dedicated to alot of abdominal work, clean dieting, with one cheat day per week, and am going to focus on alot more cardio. I have cut to 207 after being at 225 around 2 months ago. I am noticing alot of muscle pop out from under the fat.

Flexing in Iraq...5-1-08
I think I am putting on some good quality mass on my back
I am 36 years old and have a goal of competing in a body building competition by the time I reach 40 years old, and make a reasonable placing.
Goal (Long):
I would like to make a reasonable placing in a close by body building competition. Specifically I am at 5'9", 210 now and would like to get around 240 in the next few years before I step on the stage. I would like to phase it out where I can ad consistent muscle through different techniques on a basis of about 10 pounds of lean muscle mass per year until I reach my goal. My friends wonder why I spend so much money on supplements, but I ask them why they spend so much on alcohol? I want to p[rove to my doubters that life doesnt stop at the age of 25 or 30. I need to focus on diet alot more. Right now I would say I follow a strict diet about 4 days a week, but know that needs to increase to everyday to reach my goals. Right now I am about 15% bodyfat which I would like to reduce to single digits in the next couple years as well.
What is the most dangerous weightlifting exercise? Why?
Squats, because the majority of people use too much weight, and think they are squatting when they are only half squatting. Pick a weight you can go down all the way to parallel on and set the safety bars at that height. When you feel the bar tap slightly, fire back up. That way, if it is too heavy, you are not going to drop tons of weight on you and the safety bar will catch it.Squats, because the majority of people use too much weight, and think they are squatting when they are only half squatting. I am shifting to adding L-Arginine and L-Luecine to my supplementation plan. I am going over to the desert in january for a year, and I decided to drop the pro-hormones for a year and focus on the other new ones. So I will be taking protein, glutamine, creatine, L-Arginine, L-Luecine, N.O....
