Persistence, persistence and patience

I'm currently following Chris Gethin's 12-week trainer. It's amazing how much this takes out of you! I have never slept so well as I do after a hard workout. It's got good variety, and it has allowed me to make a lot of good progress after starting from scratch!

In the process, I have learned the value of persistence and patience. I take it one day, one workout at a time.

Coming up (now that I'm 25 pounds lighter) I plan to start making running a bigger part of the program. My goal is to run a marathon, and I have always enjoyed running. Warm weather bring it on!

NO MORE DR PEPPER!

Getting rid of soda (Dr. Pepper, in particular) is the single most important change I have made. I love Dr. Pepper... But I haven't had any in nearly 6 months. We drink way too much soda in our society, with some people not even touching a glass of water in a day.

Other than that, I have made the standard changes that you will find here on BB.com. I drink a lot more water, I have cut out sugar almost completely, I watch my salt, I eat lots of small meals with lots of protien and judicious amounts of complex carbs.

Just a few great ones

I take just a few great supplements. Protien powder is a regular part of my daily diet. I like to mix cookies and creme with chocolate, but will try just about anything. I also take animial Pak multi vitamins with breakfast and Animal Omega with lunch. And I love Scivation Extend or another BCAA in my water during the day. Sometimes I'll take Jack3d before my workouts, and I certainly see a difference in my workout when I do. However, I'm not a huge fan of feeling like a tweaker at the gym. So I am actually cutting back on that.

Well, I did it! I may not have reached my goals, but in retrospect I see that I had some pretty lofty goals.


I started out at 248 pounds and had a goal of getting down to 185 pounds. I didn't reach that -- I weighed in on my final day at 225. However, I have learned during this process that good, proper weight-loss that includes strength training is about 2 pounds per week. During the course of the challenge I have lost 23 pounds, so I'm right on track!


 Here's where I was before: 248 lbs, 46" waist, 48.5" hips.

Three Weeks Down -- 1/4 Done

I've been working Chris Gethin's 12-week trainer (the 2009 variety -- I liked the schedule a little better on that one and anything is better than where I started) for three weeks now. That means I'm already a quarter of the way done!


 Man, time flies.


I had some short-term goals to lose 10 pounds (238#) by Jan 16th, and measurements of 43 and 45 on my waist and hips respectively. I missed those goals, but I'm still making good progress. It took me an extra week to break the 240 mark, and I'm sitting right about 239 now. My waist is 43.5" and my hips are

gandubas Thanks dude. Actually, i am in need of an answer about my carb intake. you see my gym time starts at 9pm - 11pm, when i come out, i should have carbs, but i know Kris Gethin kuts them out. I'm not real sure how to paly this, i guess i would have to ask him. Anyways, weight loss was kid of short, just 1lb, but i need to kick it up a notch trying to get to 3lb per week if i want to reach my goal at all. You should upload new progress pics. gandubas Its not bad with Brown rice. If i do have it during the day (since i am cutting carbs on the last two meals), i will have Boston roll - no mayo, sweet potato roll, and california roll...no mayo. I do have this once per week and i do well. Give it a shot, but during the day only, you do not want to load up like that after towards the evening. Jan 24, 2012 10:48am
