Decided to join the US Navy and wanted to enter into boot camp in good condition so I joined a gym 6 months prior to enlistment to increase cardio endurance and gain strength. After the military and becoming a civilian again I had 2 children and "let myself go". By 2005 I was a complete mess and got back into the gym. I competed in my first NPC show in 2006. From 2006-2008 I competed, for the remainder of 2008-2010 time was taken off due to having two more children. I have just paid my entry fee for the 2013 Phil Heath Figure Division in Houston, Texas. 12/23/12 i am 12 weeks out from the competition.
I love it for the mental clarity it gives me. When i am getting ready for a show and eating clean it seems nothing is out of reach. The distractions that come from day to life for some reason are not there when im prepping for competing. I first noticed it when getting for my first show in 2006, the more focus i had on my training it seemed everything else in life fell into place right where it was suppose to. I had never felt I was on a destined path the way i feel when going to the gym, traveling to shows, discussing training, dieting, fitness programs with others trying to get started. I feel like I am home when I am surrounded by weights. Its strange to some but it is where i belong and i love it.
