I do not have the answer..I find myself falling into a deep pit of darkness..in that pit there is no vision..no strength, but..
"You can climb out of Hell, one inch at a time."
"You can move from darkness into the light."
"It is not the falling that matters..we will fall..it is what I do after I fall that matters."
This is truth..
Lifting is therapy..it is health..it gives life and breath..it gives peace and satisfaction..
In my fitness journey I have learned more and more about myself..I have learned that age comes with consequences..also disease has its difficulties ..I have battled with Fibromyalgia for 16 years now..as I get older the disease affects me differently..at 43 I simply took a sleep aid and 12 Ibuprofen per day..the sleep aid was an antidepressant which caused me to gain weight..topped out at 206 lbs..exercise was limited to light weights a couple times per week..most of my gym time was spent in the whirlpool to ease sore joints and muscles..in a nutshell Fibro attacks the autoimmune system and nerves..exertion comes with terrible fatigue and the muscles recover more slowly than ever..now my joints are wearing down and the pain involved is magnified by the effects of Fibro on my nerve endings..a few years back my body revolted against the pain I had masked with OTC pain relievers for years..I was dulling the pain outwardly but my brain was still dealing with it in its own way.
So now there are changes in my workout program to allow for more recoup time between sessions..the pain was getting chronic, not DOMS. Pain mostly in shoulder, knee, hip, elbow joints..
There is no one "fits all" program, because we all start at a different place, and have different goals..I would now add that we all have different outside, or inside influences which deter, or alter our progress..so we have to adjust, or adapt, to allow for those..some things cannot be escaped..we own it..it is our lot in life..so we move forward at the required pace..
Never compare your workout to anothers and think ,"I should be doing more!!, or less?!"..listen to your body and do what feels right for you at this particular time in your journey..changes will come, and you will change when the time comes..this applies to diet also..some folks need more carbs or fats or proteins than others..we are not carbon copies..we are humans with flaws and feelings that we must deal with in our own way..so don't judge your friend cause they're using the 25s curling and you are doing 55s..or because they train twice a day seven days per week, and you can only manage three one session days..peer pressure to move up quickly leads to injury and breakdown of immunities..colds and flu and infections are the result..get to know YOU! ..
