How I Started
I really never thought of my body as attractive. I always thought I was sort of awkwardsly proportioned, never considered fitness. My entire life I have had the mentality that I could never be athletic, apparently the gene missed me in my family. I have always been terrified to try anything athletic but I was still fairly attractive by the time I got to college, bodywise. I was modeling but at one point, I looked at the proofs I realized I couldn't make it in this industry without getting in shape. I almost shot w/ Rob Sims & he gave me some advice he told me "You have to be in the best shape, with the best skin, best hair, the best package compared to all the other girls or you're not going to go anywhere" & it seems a little overboard but I really took it to hear. I didnt want to be photoshopped. I wanted job security & i found that the fitness industry had a clearer path to where I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. I had to take control of my life and make the proper sacrifices to erase the fat and not NEED to be photoshopped. I studied the models in the industry & i developed the path I wanted to take. So early in 2009, in March i picked up weights for the first time in my life and I was much stronger than I expected myself to be. Ive steadily increased my strength since then and it feels like I've finally found something I'm somewhat good at. I hired a trainer and he helped me get in the best shape of my life and i entered my first fitness competition in May and place 2nd! It was a great accomplishment for me considering all the skills I had to learn from scratch. Now I consider myself very athletic and capable and am not afraid to try new things! If ever I don't have faith in myself I have faith in the capabilities of the human body & the science of exercise & nutrition. Weightlifting has become one of my favorite past times and I love being strong and fit! I am about to graduate shortly with a Kines/Nutrition Degree. Right now I'm also working on my ACSM and AFPA certification in PT and Nutrition. When I graduate I will pursue my CCN.
I have my own successful online business and I work as a manager at Vitamin Shoppe. I'm an internationally published writer online and in print, and as a model I was published in an 8 page spread in this year's March/April issue of American Curves magazine.
My goal is not to be a popular fitness model. I find that pointless and annoying. I want to be a source of information and help for people that need it. There are enough "inspirations" out there for you to look at and wish you had that body. I want to be the one to tell you how to get it. I don't mind sharing my methods, in fact I feel obligated to. I'm not special. I'm blessed to be where I am. You guys' support and the support and resources on bodybuilding.com have been an integral piece in the puzzle of my success. I use modeling, etc. as a marketing tool to help me reach more people and build my business, that's it. My true value is not on the outside, it's my spirit and my heart and I like to focus on that. I'm not here to impress, I'm here to HELP.
I want to show everyone that you don't have to be miserable or missing out to have an awesome physique and exceptional health status, in fact it is your civil right to do so! I'm going to make sure Fitness is available and accessible to everyone. Eventually I want to petition to implement a nutrition curriculum in high schools in Texas and then across America and I would love to teach people all over the world how to live the fit lifestyle.
Feel free to ask me any questions you have or just comment to chat, I love connecting with you guys and I can find time to answer your inqueries and comments. No one is too busy for things that are important to them and you guys are important to me.
Why I Love it
It's such a great stress reliever. Plus, it's the only thing in my life where I can control the pain in a positive way & create visible results.
I'm fascinated with the science of exercise and nutrition and the fact that we can tear our bodies down and build them up however we want just by manipulating our nutrition and workouts! It's amazing! Fitness had made me a better person and I have a fiery burning passion for it!
